I don’t know. What crowd is break even nowadays ? I realise Tassie is a big AFL state but are they viable ?. How much would the state Gov be willing to stick in for a team just in one City. The next TV rights might be lower so where is all the money coming from ? I realise all the money wasted on GC and the Giants. Also not many of the players are from Tassie so attracting players might be difficult. A lot of work to be done. Good luck.

As previously said, … they are only going to get more viable. The population has no choice but to grow, . and there is a lot of Tassie mania (see what I did there, … :smirk:) currently, seeing a major influx of folk and house prices escalating.

An “All Weather” (roofed) ground would certainly get a lot more to attend. I’d think they’d fill a 50 k Etihad there every week if they could afford to build it.

(Maybe they can just airlift Marvel down there and rebuild one at the docklands to better specs?? )

You think one tenth of every man woman and child in the whole state would go to the football every week?

I think a team is viable, but I think a more realistic crowd is 20K. Which is totally fine, if the stadium is set up correctly. Make it a lovely boutique stadium and you might even attract some visitors from interstate. Hell, going to Tassie for a weekend is a lot more attractive to me then going to Brisbane or Adelaide.

I believe if it were to happen it might be one of the Victorian teams who will relocate. It will still be 18 teams. Too many teams in Victoria and too many still sucking from the AFL’s breast.

And have all the visiting away team fans from the big island getting themselves lost.
Make sure you bring plenty of sandwiches and a rescue beacon.

South don’t want it up north.
North don’t want it down south.
Greenies don’t want it period.
Kennett doesn’t want to lose the tas governments money.
Kangaroos don’t want to lose theirs.
Gonna be a battle.

I’ve only been to Hobart and that is a great place to visit for the weekend.
Agree, set things up right and it should work. They are an Aussie Rules state after-all.

Plus, for the AFL to call it a national comp without having Tasmania is just AFL-double speak. Especially setting Gold Coast up before dealing with Tasmania.

An AFL side in Tasmania would pass the water-cooler test easily.

I think it would be fantastic. The only issue I suspect will be retention of players. They might even have to base the team’s training headquarters in Melbourne. Although I think Hobart is lovely, 18yo dudes who like nightlife might disagree…

I want it to happen cos north will be left fuming and one way or another will blame Essendon for it

Hobarts not to bad these days.

Plenty of bars in Salamanca that you can have a good night out. Doing it unnoticed as a footy player might be hard.

When the AFL is ready if they ever are it will happen and clubs will do as they are told.

We all know the AFL have their ways. If they cut off the supply of folding stuff, the club of choice really has little choice and no amount of protesting by fans will make a scrap of difference. When the AFL is ready and when they say it will happen, it will. Right now the AFL’s focus is further north when that changes - watch out.

Tassie Ships - Spirit of Tas Sponsor
Tassie Wombats

Devils would be most likley though.

Yep would help more clubs come over here. as Big clubs down and the clubs afl send are mainly non vic clubs so they dont bother as its too far.

Taswegians living all over australia so would get decent away crowd when travelling.

When was the last time you were there? Some of the best little bars in the country. I rate Rude boy pretty highly and Gold bar. Dier Makr is probably the most under rated restaurant in the country right now too.

Ahem.
I’m right here you know

Fk off.

Grr

No way there’ll be the Tassie Devils and the Melbourne Demons, it’ll something different
