The 2018 Benfti "in absentia" Hype thread

I’d imagine these days clubs would be reluctant to draft a skinny specialist medium/small forward who doesn’t apply manic pressure

found this highlight reel of Pickett.

On the radar again for this year.

I think this is a pretty ■■■■ comment.

Same. And I think Parker is family, and I want him too!

Agreed. They will help each other settle in.

it’s only a comment on our recruiting methods

Okay.
What has what you said got to do with our recruiting methods?
Specifically.

A player moving themself across the country to a region they didn’t speak the language and having to prove beyond doubt that they deserve a chance to be drafted. Vs comes from a good famil leadership qualities

A club taking such a player.
Name another club.

Bens getting on his high horse because he’s been recommending walla for years before we eventually have him a shot.

But we did give him a shot.
You could Maybe argue we held him back a year, but you could argue we held Francis back two, and he was a top ten draft pick

The idea that Essendon has somehow done the wrong thing by Tippa…well you can fark right off with that.

I don’t think that. Just to clarify. I also don’t agree with dodoros drafting strategy. What I do think is that Essendon could’ve been doing more for a long time. We used to pioneer the integration of indigenous players into club footy. Now we only have long and walla (also lavender but I don’t think he’s very likely).

We could, everyone now would say should, have taken Rioli.
If our draft pick was 4-6 places further back then I have no doubt we would have.
But maybe two or three in fifty were saying it at the time.

Anthony Long is heading into his third year of…I don’t know, whatever you want to call it.

If Davey’s kids are any good then we’ll pick them up.

The VFL comment was bullshit, and insulting to all concerned, Tippa included.

More than 3 wanted Rioli.

No comment on anything else.

The Parker/Pickett combo would be nice. Would be a small chance to get them with our last 2 picks.

Has anyone heard any whispers around 34 recently?

I wanted Rioli, thought he dominated in div 2 champs. Would have been good if they had the allies games back then in div 1
But if you could go back again in hindsight you would take Dangerfield.

I wanted rance with our second pick too but he didn’t make it.

Hooker at 54 was a inspired decision.

We ended up with Myers, Pears, Hooker, Darcy Daniher, Bellchambers

Pretty good drafting overall given 3 of them are still on the list.

Hawks got Rioli, Whitecross Dew and 2008 flag

Plenty wanted Rioli.
I’ll stand by three as saying he was worth pick #6.
As it turned out, Ebert at #13 would have been a better pick than both.
Let alone Dangerfield at #10.

Nah, there would have been plenty of know nothings wanting Rioli at pick 6 just for his name alone. The fact that they would have been correct in this instance doesn’t make their opinion versus professionals any more compelling than it already was though.

We would have been better with Dangerfield than Rioli anyway as our injury management back then would have torn Rioli’s hamstrings to shreds.
