FFS, can the Barmy Army just drink themselves to death already. What a sorry excuse for cricket fans.

What’s wrong with the Barmy Army?

Can they just ban sports betting advertising please?

The data on this is really interesting.

Historically, win the toss and bat was the mantra, but it was not always as clear cut as it appeared. For Home sides, (1877-1999) it didn’t make a lot of difference, there was only 2% variation in the outcome for the home side. However, a touring side that won the toss, was 8.7% more likely to win if they batted than bowled first.

From 2000-2010, things changed. The side batting 2nd won more than the side batting first, quite significantly. Then from 2011-2021 it swung back the other way hugely.

2000-10: Home side won 11.7% more winning toss and fielding, away side won 14.2% more winning toss and fielding.
2011-21: Home side won 18.2% more winning toss and batting, away side won 13.2% more winning toss and batting.

I don’t think this will be that far from the truth to be honest. Couple of modest first innings totals coming up I reckon. Maybe 230 and 270 type stuff. Often harder to bat on Day 2 at the Gabba, as the wicket quickens up.

Everything.

Apart from trumpet guy.

ā€œBut please, gamble responsibly.ā€ That makes all the advertising for sports betting morally acceptable…

There is every chance Starc delivers a Harmy with his first pill today.

Every chance he cartwheels a stump with an inswinging Yorker, too.

I get that the stats are there to analyse, but it doesn’t take into account the respective quality of the two teams in the contest. There was a period of nearly 20 years when the Australian team could turn up to the ground drunk, lose the toss, bowl first on a slow, do-nothing deck, accidentally rub sunscreen in their own eyes, and still win by an innings and 400 runs.

Nice choice of Moby tune.

Botham has mentally and emotionally checked out. Sounds like he’d rather be asleep. Was it impossible to get an Atherton, Gower or Hussein?

Who called a first ball castling!
