The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Okay that’s fair.

Hard to tell on here… McGrath seems to have become the whipping boy for a lot

It’s why I said it. He is an OK player. Not his fault he was pick 1.

Great reference

Nguyen might be short and will certainly need to put on a bit of muscle, but he appears to have quite the athletic profile, which certainly helps. If he applies himself I can see a world where he develops into a tidy, little player.

I am not going to pretend like I saw any of his coates league stuff, however I thought he looked pretty promising in the one vfl hitout

Most nominated underrated gun amongst his peers is James Barrat from Bendigo Pioneers. 193cm swingman. Full Back in the Coates League team of the year and looks like he had a solid National championships in defence for Vic Country as well.

Good country kid from Gunbower. Might be a good option with one of our later picks.

Convinced myself Harvey Langford is a genuine star, seems he’s got the ability to find time in any scenario, add marks around the ground, the ability to hit the scoreboard and production, reckon he’s a very good player at the top level.

We need a bit of everything. If we end up with a really good quality 5’10’’ player with skills who can be useful then thank god.

It’s not like he’s so highly rated that we have to compete heavily.

He’s an excellent competitor, strong and a great mark for his size which lets him play as a legit key position player.

He is unfortunately an awful kick.

That’s a shame. Might be a rookie chance.

Could spend time with Tsatas and Rath after hours.

No more bad kicks please

Easy answer is “no”.

You could be right, he’s an intriguing proposition. The only part of that I would disagree with is “finding time in any scenario”. That’s more of a Murphy Reid thing especially in tight, contested situations. Langford is composed when he has the ball outside in space, but inside he’s more of a bulldozer. At the start of the season I was worried as he always seemed to be caught flat foot at stoppage so when the ball came his way his lack of acceleration and agility would force him to get rid of it quickly before getting tackled. As the season went on he developed his stoppage craft quite a bit. He started to get on the move as the ball went up and try to time his run at the drop zone of the ruck tap which helped a lot to mitigate his lack of acceleration. He also started to use his size and strength to push off his opponent to create more separation. That development says good things about his footy smarts and willingness to work on his deficiencies.

Any views on Tye Hourigan?
From Gippsland.

I don’t know. We can’t just do what the good teams do, we need to try something different.

You can if you get AFL approval.

I haven’t focused on him enough to have a strong view.

The way I watch the games is different. Normal draft watchers would sit down with a notepad and get a broader view of all the kids they’re watching. For me, I watch each of the games multiple times, but each time I’m editing for a video so I’m zipping through it on 4x speed picking out the moments that the kid I’m looking for is interacting with the play. This means that unless a kid that I’m not focused on is doing something outstanding or has a big moment its easy for me to lose them in the noise.

Really hope we can trade back in for a pick in the top 25 this year after a Kako bid.

Kako + Shanahan/Faull/Hynes/Hannaford/Oliver and some later picks would be a good haul, then hit next year with two firsts.

I reckon we’ll offer next years first round pick to gws for 16. And we’ll pick up Shanahan.

That would be a significant pick-up and win.
