The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

@noobermensch do you know much about WA’s Will Hayes?

Yes, but you have to be out of contract. If they mix the extensions between 2 and 3 years, some will be contracted when they hit their 8th year.

A little bit. What do you want to know?

Strengths and weaknesses, chances of being drafted. The truth is I used to teach him so I’m an eager onlooker.

Nice one. Well he’s pretty likely to be drafted in the main show I would say, albeit probably in the later rounds. He’s super quick and clean below the knees, super agile. Swoops on the loose ball in a way that just feels a level above the Colts comp. Has endurance to play up the ground and through the middle, but I imagine he’s more likely to be a small forward or perhaps half forward flanker at AFL level.

He’s a kid that only shows flashes of talent at the moment and you’d be drafting him more on his traits than his production which has been a bit spotty this year.

This was one of his better performances at Colts level this year.

That’s awesome. He’s a lovely kid so wishing him all the best. Thank you for the information. Much appreciated.

The player and club both have to agree to those extensions though.
Players generally won’t extend a contract past that 8th year. They (and their managers) know the potential $$ being thrown around in Free Agency.

There are obvious exceptions, but it’s still a risk that would be assessed by clubs.

What your saying is right but I reckon Richmond will take a majority in this draft purely because they are charging supporters $25 to go and watch the draft at punt road

That’s got to be a gee-up surely?

Yes, so I have been told and has stacked the weight on since the google pics.

Richmond will take their picks because they sold the farm to get this draft hand

KFC?

Only 28 and 31 i think.

With a 25% discount if Stkilda bid with their first pick thats all it would take to match.

Any earlier than 7 and we would be in trouble with losing 40.

Melbourne won’t at pick 5. Surely part of the agreement to trade the pick.

And theres too much better talent available to Richmond even though they have pick 1 and 6.

Where we should get excited is if the Kako bid doesnt happen until Sydney’s end of first round pick.

Because at a 25% discount all we need is pick 28(just). If Kakos bid comes end of first round then we might try to trade up a couple of spots from 28 with some pick swaps to maintain 31.

Nope hundred percent what they are doing.

Iam against trading either of the future firsts but if it got to pick twenty and shanahan was there I’d happily trade 28 and future third or similar to get him

Kinda annoying how confident Richmond supporters are that they will nail every pick and be back contending in no time at all. I miss that feeling.

Dont think we have a future third.

We have a future 2nd and two firsts.

Perhaps they might shift that future second

But i don’t know what club would trade out for it that early. I mean maybe if richmond havent been able to trade up as they have so many high picks.

But i think they will get to trade up further with some of those late firsts they have

On nailing picks, im curious as to see who the Scum get having traded up hard to get pick 3.

Someone they rate highly internally.
