To condense my thoughts, I wouldn’t be trading up to get Armstrong (unlikely anyway because he’ll probably go before Kako) or Shanahan, when we might get Faull or Gerreyn at a fairer price. And I want aggressive forwards.
I know most of the guys I make vids for in this series won’t be available to us (I will do one for Kako), but I imagine there are people in here keen to see what the top end kids are all about:
We’re on the final stretch run with the National Draft only a couple of weeks away. Just like last season I’ll be producing a series of full season highlights videos for the top prospects, and first up is Sid the kid, the SANFL Sensation Sid Draper.
@noobermensch have you seen any of riak andrew this year? I read an article saying they’re confident he will get drafted which surprised me, he played as an overager this year. I’m wondering if he actually impressed, or if he’s getting by on being mac’s brother.
Yeah a fair bit as I’ve been watching a ton of the Stingrays for other players. Reckon he’d need to be a late bloomer… just doesn’t seem close to his brother in most ways. Can lock down on an opponent but not much else there that looks AFL level for me.
I thought that if Ashcroft has been bid on before pick 7, and as a result St. Kilda’s pick 7 gets pushed down to pick 8, any St. Kilda bid on Kako at that pick would be at the points value of pick 8. Surely. Can’t be otherwise, because St. Kilda would be using the 8th pick in the draft and it has to be at the value of pick 8.
Yeah my understanding is that @handypoint is wrong. The points for your picks are worth whatever your picks are at the time you match, inclusive of any moves up or down as picks are added or subtracted after bids. If for instance picks 28 and 31 move out to 30 and 33 after Ashcroft and Lombard bids then the bid for Kako comes, we would be matching him using the points value of 30 and 33.
Others like @SplitRound are more knowledgeable on the draft system details though.
I thought the same when i saw him last year, that’s why i was surprised by the claim he’s certain to be picked up, thought he must have bloomed all of a sudden .
This is incorrect. The cost of matching is the pick bid on. After matching, all other draft picks are shifted down for the new pick(s) [the one for the player and possibly one for left over picks] and up for the picks wiped.
What doesn’t change is the value of picks during the same matching process. So, if you match with 3 picks the second and third don’t move up during the bid & match.
If Ashcroft and Lombard are bid on before us any Kako bid will be cheaper due to occurring later and (presumably) picks before ours being wiped.
So to maximise, we would be hoping for both Lombard and Ashcroft to be bid first as the points reduction is greater than the reduction in points of later picks.
