The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Perhaps.

Do you actually think clubs would let Ashcroft slide to pick 5 if Brisbane had pick 4? No chance in hell. GC did the same with Lombard.

I don’t get how people don’t get this.

Exactly this, it’s game theory

What other clubs do depends on what picks we have, not just what they have

I think there’s a fair chance but ultimately it’s all a game of poker - the bidding club has to be prepared to take the player but in our case it’s obvious we would match.

I think it’s obvious in most (all) early nga/father son picks that the club would match, it allows you to get a first round pick for pretty much nothing. Which is why we did the trade rather than risk pick 9 being absorbed.

I don’t think there is a case of this not occurring in early picks.

I genuinely dont think anyones taking a big on kako before pick 9, i dont like the trade because i think we’d be game theorying ourselves out of a young talent earlier.

The swans chose not to match on Dunkley in the 20s if I remember correctly, might the highest non matched bid.

Problem is we need 3 or 4 picks to draft 2nd or 3rd round players.
Best is to deal with Brisbane to get their 27 and pay for Kako bid so our 31 will become late 20s.

I don’t know how but I’d seriously love to see Joe Berry & Isaac Kako in the same forward line.

They would regret that in hindsight you would think. He is exactly the type of gritty destroyer their all-action-whippet-midfield lacks.

That’s because Barham and the board considered (and were told by outsiders) that we had a good list and recruitment and list management wasn’t the main issue and coaching and development were.

Who by? Can I take a wild guess?

Did he have the initials KS?

Expect Kako to come in at 15. We will match, move on. No need to use any f1.

Dunkley did not want to move interstate so the arrangement with the Swans was that id he was drafted by a Victorian the clubs would not match, while, if he was drafted by an interstate club the Swans would match.

A Kako, Hannaford and Gerreyne combo would be perfect for us.

The first two complement each other perfectly in the position of greatest need and Gerreyne seems the best value ruck and KPF option for us now that Faull and Shanahan seem to be 1st round or early 2nd round picks.

Top it off with Nguyen as an NGA, Bice as a late/rookie pick

Josh Dolan, Zak Johnson, Will Hayes and Isaiah Winder all have handy AFL traits that could make them handy pickups with late picks too

Even better, Aliexpress

Cal Twomey has got us matching richmond’s bid on Kako at pick 13 in his phantom draft

McCartney and Lewis

It just dawned on me that Dunkley has won two premierships against the swans - the ultimate ■■■■ you

Yep, I’d be trading up to ensure we get Hannaford. Kako and Hannaford our small forwards for the next 15 years
