Daicos, Darcy, Ashcroft all were recruited with third round picks and they are all generational talent.
Its amatuer hour if we use two late second rounders to get Kako.
There is no way we simply match a bid for him with 28/31. We will trade them for something.

Yes we will more than likely trade them into next year at least one of them.
What the basis of what iam saying is keep it simple and load up for next year
It’s fairly obvious that the strategy set by the board under Barham hasn’t worked ie the list is good enough and we need an experienced coach to realise the full potential of the list. Effectively we’ve lost 2 years proving this - playing “jobbers”. Now the strategy is to hit the top end of the draft as that is where the future ‘A’ graders come from… just a cluster ■■■■

Its the coaches job to win games of football.
Scrutiny is probably on who we recontracted last year and during the year.
We certainly cleared a few spots this season.
Im not so sure Brad really refused to play kids at their detriment in the AFL. Theres nothing wrong with a decent VFL apprenticeship.
Trading out of this years third round to get Caddy was the right call.
Perhaps Lual and the other guys we chose to take last year were the mistake.
Thats not, “not loading up on youth”. Its poor draft timing which is frustrating as a fan having seen us load up into the covid draft and missing first and second round selections this year when the pool is strong.

Im only suggesting they are the reason we started with little capital in this years draft.
Ie trading up for caddy and into the back end for them.
If theres a mistake made about not being as present in this draft as a club as you would like to be thats the reason.
Yet somehow we have been ranked the 5th hardest draw for next season.

I’m predicting that Richmond bid on kako at around pick 13 then we trade back in immediately with them where they get dees F1.

It’s done now but I still really struggle with our trade.
We will never know but cal predicting nobody would bid on Ashcroft before 5, and we were worried by a bid for Kako before 9.
Can’t reconcile it myself.

Comparing a possible Kako bid before the trade to an Ashcroft bid during the draft is a bit false.
If we kept 9 then a Kako bid would have come earlier, but we traded it so it won’t anymore.
It’s the whole reason why clubs trade out high picks in this scenario.
It’s a competitive environment, clubs would bid just to wipe out the competitions picks. I guarantee you if Brisbane had pick 4 then an Ashcroft bid would come well before then.
