I like Shanahan not just because he kicked goals for our vfl team. TBH most of those goals were fairly routine, with the main feature being accurate kicking. What I like is that he’s not just a mark and kick key forward, but touted as an all round player who has excelled in defence as well, but most of all, he has come on in a big way in the 2nd half of the season. I think some really good players emerge late and overtake the bottom age stars. Both Shanahan and Hannaford fit this description.
He played in defense twice in the second half of the season and he was okay there but it was more of a change up to show recruiters something different. He’s definitely going to be recruited as a forward. He’s not like a Matt Whitlock who played both forward and back regularly throughout the season and excelled at both.
The one outstanding stretch of games was playing for us in the VFL. The two weeks leading into that stretch were his games in defense which were just okay. After the VFL games he then returned to the talent league and booted 6 goals his first game back, but then followed that up in the first finals week with a zero goal egg as Bendigo were bundled out.
If we’re talking bolters - Hannaford was the poster child for that this year.
Thanks for that. I appreciate your knowledge of the detail and ability to put meat on the bones of the vague ideas of people like me who know a little bit.
No club rules out aiming for finals……nobody has said that we aren’t
Did he not have the best contested mark numbers in the nationals? I feel like I remember reading that about him
All good. I’m trying to stay balanced on Shanahan because I have a bias for guys that are a little more intense and “white line fever” type of operators in that position than he is, but at the same time I do admire Shanahan’s talent. Lovely mover and balance, has a bit of the Curnow’s about him but without Charlie’s intensity.
Its possible. He can take a grab for sure.
I’d like us to go all in on Shanahan on account of his first name being Jobe.
Can any astute judges rate my strategy?
I can’t think of a single Jobe that’s played for essendon who hasn’t been a superstar so the math checks out.
You can’t do stuff like this. I haven’t seen a second of footage of the young man but am convinced that he will be a star and will burn my membership when we don’t draft him.
Because they’re ■■■■!
I think it’s a good move regardless. We’re likely to end up with FAR more draft capital across two years than if we hadn’t done it. Obviously how Melbourne goes is key.
Some people believe they are worth a future first. Really, who knows what our team has planned. I figured the two f1s were for a player we needed in 2026.
Before that, a fit and healthy TMP can help us move up the ranks. A much-maligned TMP, this should be his final year. How much does it cost to replace TMP and get a year into a forward who can generate results by 2026?
Well that rules us out aswell then.
The saints might even pull a swifty and take him seeing he is a saints supporter
I feel the complete reverse. We reacted to the risk that someone would bid early on Kako, dumped Stringer … and did nothing else. I thought it was totally reactive.
Let’s hope the action hot stuff in here tomorrow. I cannot recall such a low-key draft lead up as this one. I guess the spoiler is we get Kako tomorrow and that’s it. No need to tune in until Thursday.
A bid on Brisbane father-son gun Levi Ashcroft is now considered likely to come not until the Demons’ pick, while St Kilda could also place bids on both of Isaac Kako (Essendon’s Next Generation Academy prospect) and Leo Lombard (Gold Coast’s Academy product) with their back-to-back top-10 picks. If either gets through to Richmond then the Tigers would place a bid.
If st kilda bid on Kako early I hope we bid on all their NGA kids with our pick in the 30’s to put them into a deficit next season. The flogs should just be happy they rorted the system with a top 10 pick for battle.
I bit of football Karma for that crap club would be good.
Im not so sure didnt they have a lot of draft picks in 2004 and pretty much botched them all?
So if Kako is rated 4 picks lower than Ashcroft, I suspectS St Kilda are playing vindictive funny buggers and Bassat can go ■■■■ himself with the rough end of a pineapple.
