The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Bassat is an idiot

Unless we blow up the list and trade everyone no one will be happy no matter what the club is trying to achive in terms of building a list

Cal has changed his phantom draft to have us matching a bid from the saints at ten

Also Cal has said we might look to trade with GWS but will be hard and they may want our future first which in my view should be completely off the table.

I would explode if we give up next year’s first.

Did anyone hear Mick Ablett on SEN this afternoon?
I only caught the last bit but he paid out on Essendon’s decision to trade pick 9.
Suggested we were spooked.
(He’s probably correct there)
He pinned Rosa for being green!
(As if it’s entirely his decision)

As I said, I only caught the last bit and I tend to get triggered by these “experts” other than Cal.

My question to this moron- how would we match a bid for Kako otherwise??

Expect now cal has change he’s phantom to have us matching bid at 10 so if that’s the case had Rosa instead done extremely well

It’s not being spooked, it’s called planning for contingencies. There’s now a number of options for us rather than simply taking Kako at 9 and then hoping someone good falls to our second pick.

FWIW, I absolutely believe we/Rosa made the correct call.

so whats the point at which its we panicked?

picked at 15? 18?

Yeah I heard him talk about it a while ago with a similar message.

I just think he is totally wrong. He leans on the possibility of live trading on the night without consideration for what that actually looks like and how it go terribly wrong. In fact last time I heard him say it it wasn’t even in response to a question, he just offered it up. Which is perhaps interesting in itself.

He has been quite glowing about our list management……previously.

Sos will bid on Kako at 7 or 8 for his mate Dodoro. Seeing as we clearly treated him so badly. 20 odd years was far too brief a stay for a man with such an exemplary resume.

This notion that we were spooked into trading out pick 9 because clubs threatened to bid on him in the top 10 is a total furphy. Did it happen? Will we ever know? It’s irrelevant. 100%. Every club that has had a top f/s or academy player has traded out their top picks to avoid this precise situation. Brisbane did it; the Pies did it; the Bulldogs did it; GC did it; they all have. It’s what clubs do to take away that temptation. There really is nothing to see here imo. The headline should be Essendon finally do what all the other clubs have done at the draft!

Problem is that would support the pick trade being the right call.

A bit of a dilemma…

Being the right call vs inflicting maximum damage to our draft hand… he’ll probably go the latter.

In all seriousness though, yeah who knows how it will all play out. Only 24hrs away now.

This, he comes across as a Dodoro lover and now that he is gone he is picking on the new kid.

Mick Ablett, Gary Ablett Sr’s nephew, has played the exact same number of AFL games as I have.
