Interesting that it says “their future first”.

If they give us North’s future first back then I can live with it…

I’m sure there is more to it.

On all evidence I’ve seen so far, Rosa and Vozzo have been pretty shrewd with the pick swaps.

the other 2 reasons clubs bid are

  1. make rival clubs pay market value
  2. the player meets their needs and in the unlikely event the bid is not matched they get a player they want.

Essendon Football Club’s performance in the 2024 trade and draft period has been a mixed bag, sparking some debate among fans and experts.

The Bombers made a bold move by trading their No. 9 pick and a future third-round selection to Melbourne in exchange for Melbourne’s future first-rounder and several later picks2. This decision was driven by their strategy to secure enough points to match a bid for their Next Generation Academy forward, Isaac Kako. However, the bid for Kako didn’t come until pick 13, which led some to criticize the trade as a missed opportunity to secure another top talent2.

On the positive side, Essendon did manage to secure Kako, who is highly rated and expected to make a significant impact. Additionally, the Bombers have positioned themselves well for the 2025 draft with Melbourne’s future first-round pick1.

Overall, while some view the trade as a strategic move for long-term gains, others see it as a potential blunder in the short term3. Time will tell how these decisions play out for the Bombers.

I’d like us to take Sam Davidson

They are but I can’t see how giving up future top ten picks could be beneficial when we are looking to bring in elite talent at the top of the draft as they have mentioned

Yeah I agree.

Still, happy to see how it plays out. From what we have seen a pick swap in isolation is very rarely the finished article.

If Richmond go into next year with 3 first round picks… all belonging to average to sh¡t teams… after taking 6 first rounders this year, then my goodness me they are going to be rebounding pretty hard and fast in a few years from now.

Whats the knock on shanahan?

I like shanahan but no chance he’s a top 10 pick worthy player. We could give Richmond 37 and a future second, but after north last night, that probably wouldn’t do the job.

Our only competitor here will be Geelong that I think will offer up a future first which makes sense for them as it’s likely to be in the high teens.

If we give up Dees future first we should be getting something back but the Tigers have nothing to give, nothing of value in this draft or anything of value next year after their first two first rounders.

The only way this deal will make sense for us is our future second and pick 37 for pick 28.

We do that…and Mick Ablett will be right.

Headlines in the HS just now - Dons coming hard for first pick on night 2 to get Jobe Shanahan. Sounds like a future first for 28 plus change from the Tigers

No Norf ■■■■■■ us over by gifting Tiges their f1.

Oh what could have been…champ!

They dont have any change, thats the issue. We are better off doing the deal with the Dogs and getting a F2 back

There is no way in the world Shanahan is worth a top 10 pick, even in a poor year
