The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Haven’t lost faith. Have seen him play live and there is enough video around to support that evidence. He hits the ball hard and reads it well the one thing you can’t teach .l just hope everyone doesn’t expect him to go straight in and be Bartlett , Betts or Milne

Clear an unambiguous in their opinion.

But that’s based on information that was incomplete. The opposition list managers can all day “yes we would have bid”, but that’s when they’re not faced with losing Smilie if we say “OK”. They never had to actually make that call, so it’s easy to say “yeah we would have bid”.

I’m not saying anyone’s right or wrong, just that I don’t believe it was as much a 100% certainly as is being portrayed to provide the argument as to why we traded.

It was still a good deal to trade while the deal was there from Melbourne. The real discussion is whether we could have got an equally as good deal from North on draft night, but I wouldn’t have wanted to play that game.

We don’t need to “justify” our move, and say we were “forced” into it by other clubs out positioning is, and us blinking. It was a straight out good deal and good risk management at the same time.

I can see your point for sure.he reminds me a bit of Gryan Miers and early days he was often a liability…but given the chance just went next level…I think Kako could be better…seems more explosive.

What happened to the Greek pastry shop? That was awesome.

Of course! That was where my brain first went but second guessed myself.
We bid on a couple of players then passed, Dogs bid not long after

I am sure they’ve let teams match bids after passing previously. I assume they’ve tightened this up?

Edit. Yes it was us, I was clearly behind here.

The difference between us and north is that they will cry to the AFL that they haven’t got a pick next year and AFL will give them 2 priority picks as compensation - probably top 10 picks

edit. sorry replied to wrong post and don’t know how to fix it.

Well, we started the trade period with a first and a second-round pick.

We finished the first round of the draft with Kako, 3 second round picks and an extra first round pick next year.

Somehow that is a terrible outcome… Looks like daylight robbery to me.

Thanks.

Still might happen.

@noobermensch

Rhys Unwin. Thoughts? Did well in the draft combine and shapes as an annoying small forward at AFL level.

No worries. Let me know if you want me to elaborate further, or even draw in somebody with an opposing view for a 100 post/reply argument, just to drive the point home.

They were both exhausted after a year of doing it. They still provide some Greek pastries on a weekly basis though, through the coffee shop’s food shop.

Certainly has an ability to draw a free kick and get under the oppositions skin. Playing more midfield in this game it seems but I assume that was due to lack of personnel with Lalor being injured.

5th for Agility, 3rd for 20m sprint at the combine.

Good to know. I’ll look for some next time I’m in town.

Can you ask AI to provide a detailed explanation? It must include cucumbers as a visual aid.

I’ll have a go.

At the start of the night we had picks 28, 31, 40 and 46
Saints had … and 32 and 47.

If the Saints had bid and forced us to use 28 and 31 then their picks 32 and 47 move up. Plus as our pick 32 was immedialtely before their pick which would have been wiped completly meaning there was one less pick in front of them and more chance them getting who they wanted.

Yes, clubs look at this minutiae.

I like him but I think he’s a later pick. If we’re only using those first three that we have next and then matching on Nguyen late… he might not fit into where we’re drafting.

He’s pretty raw with his skills, kicking isnt great. Super competitive though and nice athletic profile.
