The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Collingwood choking on Friday night pi$sed me right off. We need them to jump us too.

And before you start, yes I know it’s an EVEN DRAFT. You still want to be picking as high as possible and have more options on the board no matter how even it is. Even if it’s ultimately just to trade back a pick on draft night with a club who is super keen on a particular player and get ourselves a bonus second rounder in the process.

Was saying this to the Mrs this morning. Nevermind asking draftees to spell chocolate backwards; I’d hook their nipples up to a car battery and get them to play Uno…loser loses their nipples! That’ll separate the wheat from the chaff.

Shanahan addresses and obvious need, won’t pick him tho

Disco will love him

Small forwards only. Only other acceptable answer is a tall forward for our first pick.

Agree. Although to be fair, we have a few obvious needs.

Really hope Rosa get a good clear run at this draft without the moron Dodoro looking over his shoulder.

If they are tall skinny kids who take years to develop i don’t want us wasting a first rounder on them

I don’t think anyone considers him a top 10 pick.

Given the top 8-9 seem to be all midfielders I’d be happy to trade back a few spots and take one of the non-midfielders.

Not at this stage anyway, he could be about to have a ripper close to the season?

It wasn’t that long ago that plenty of people in that years draft thread were desperate for us to use our second round pick on Munkara, so I tend to take the “we must draft this kid!!” posts as more just expressions of hype and desperation than anything else.

Sure, but those were mostly people not paying any attention to what the draft watchers were saying. Which was Munkara was a late to rookie to not pick.

Shanahan can certainly move up the rankings, often a few talls get re-evaluated. Hell, look at what happened with Windsor last year. But right now, Shanahan sounds like most draft watchers would consider him a big stretch for a pick #7.

I like what i’ve seen from Shanahan at VFL level.

But still on the Armstrong & Kako bandwagon.

If we traded back are we then at risk of a Kako bid…

That was basically my point. People that haven’t watched Shanahan all year are getting a look at him for the first time, are getting hyped about a talented youngster playing VFL for the team they support (playing a position of desperate need no less) and are prepared to throw whatever pick we have at him because they don’t know much about the rest of the draft pool.

Hype and desperation.

We get two bites of the cherry if we play it right with Kako. Take best available for need with that non-Kako bite, not just best available.

I don’t know who that is, and sure it may come at higher risk of failure, but at least it will be the right approach. I don’t care if a pick fails but we took the best fit for the list, at least it’d be long-term thinking.

I don’t think so if it’s 1-3 spots. Obviously there will be a better feel on it in November.

What are the odds that now finals are out we beat one of Sydney or Brisbane to worsen our draft hand?

INB4…

I’m dreading it happening. But I think not even we could pull that off. I reckon despite our best efforts that they’ll both take care of us. They have a heap to play for.

So would two honorable losses (20 odd pts) change anything about your thoughts on the season?
