The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Faull is less likely to become a passenger if his side is struggling too.

I personally value, after seeing 2MP up close, forwards who have more than one way they can impact games and we need more scrappers.

And Faull is a country boy.

Curious if anyone has seen Gerreyne as a forward? most of his vids are of him in the ruck but he is the other one that I think we should be looking at as that genuine 2nd ruckman

Gerryn to me is a bit like Shaun McKernan as a forward, can be up and down and not exactly natural but is capable of some special things

He’s also only 199cm tall, so unless he’s still growing, probably no more than a second/backup ruck at AFL level.

If Gerreyne is to be a number one option he’d need to grow an inch or two, or if he stays sub 200cm have the physicality of a Nankervis or Briggs ruck man combined with his forward play.

Personally if we end up with a 2nd round pick then I think he is perfect for our longterm list build with uncertainty around Draper (FA), Bryan (Trade), Goldstein (Retire) and with a promising young ruckman in Visentini.

Either way I don’t see Oldstein, and both of Draper and Bryan being on the list past the next year with a chance of all three being gone by the end of 2026. Hopefully Visentini really builds on his promising first year and is somewhat AFL ready by 2027, but chances are we will need another young guy to develop and definitely an AFL ready journeyman to give us a few years service.

All key forwards are on the table come Essendon’s pick, which one are you taking?

Is he all neck though?

Probably Armstrong on what I’ve seen. Intriguing talent, and a good skill set fit with Caddy.

Faull is my number 2 though, and I feel like he’s being a little underrated right now due to a slowish start back from his long injury layoff. If he lasts to 30+ as some are predicting I think a team will get themselves a bargain.

Full Champs highlights of the standout key defender in the draft pool Luke Trainor.

What’s Christian moraes kicking like?

Just saw some highlights of his 5 goal game.

His ball drop is ahhhhhhhh

Not great. Its his main deficiency along with decision making.

Perfect

Apparently some schoolboy who plays for Warrnambool in the Hampden League kept Jonty Faull under pretty good control in the Schools semi-final today, Emmanuel vs Ballarat Grammar. Charlie McKinnon won it for Emmanuel in the last minute, his second last-gasp winner of the tournament.

Emmanuel is the school Luamon Lual and George Stevens were drafted from.

He will fit right in.

Has a unique, some would even say strange looking kicking action. Begins with the ball in his hip pocket, then follows it with a high ball drop. So long as he kicks long and straight, it is all good.

So assuming we lose our remaining two (and fark I hope we do), our ladder position looks likely to drop to either 11th or 12th.

Hawthorn will snag a win and pass us.
Gold Coast should win both of theirs and pass us.

That has us down to 11th.

Then we need Collingwood to beat Melbourne to push us down to 12th.

So we are looking at pick 7 or 8.

Sounds like the top crop is pretty even. Who stands out for us?

Yeah I have us ending up with pick 8 which will most likely be the 9th picked player after an Ashcroft bid (possibly pick 10 if Lombard gets bid on early).

Would love Langford to be there, otherwise Allan/Hotton/Travaglia/Amrstrong all look like good options for us.

Kako & another top 10 pick would be a great haul in a strong/even first round.

I don’t know if there is a proper psychological test that can be done in the draftees interviews.

Maybe we ask all 100 draftees to go on survivor and whoever wins we take with pick 8.

Even if they suck at footy, we just need the most mentally strongest individuals.

They’ll probably just ask them to spell Watermelon backwards or some ■■■■.
