@THE_DON1 I’m just curious about Lenny Douglas from Tassie. He seems to kick a fair few goals while picking up touches, tackling and just generally being involved.
Is he likely to end up a mid?

I’ve only seen a little bit of him but he seemed to kick his goals from the midfield, not a bad little player I’d wait to see how he goes with the Allies this year before making a judgement on his draft credentials
I dunno if this has already been posted. It’s from U18 trials dated April 15th.
2 Isaac Kako (Calder Cannons)
Small Forward | 175cm | 07/03/2006
Kako started off the game well, taking an intercept mark off a kick-in and goaling from a set shot kick from close range. He then crumbed off a pack for the second goal of the game. His tackling ability was excellent and on show where he ran down his opponent from behind to draw a free kick. The forward looked dangerous as usual every time he got near it or was around the packs and finished with four first half goals, his last being from a snap late in the second quarter. He then took no further part in the game after half time, being rested with hamstring awareness.
Damn hamstring awareness. Could this be a Bomber ploy in hiding him?
Lucky he’s not already with Essendon, that hamstring awareness thingy is about 10+ weeks on the sidelines, or by ambulance to an ICU or to a trauma unit. No, no, with Essendon, make that, ambulance to the undertakers.
“The League is expected to wrap up its meetings with clubs this week and then be able to move onto informing them about any proposed changes to its bidding system, free agency, trade period, a mid-season player movement window, pick purchasing and the Next Generation Academy.”
Being the nurturing, listening, no-blaming, and compliant organisation that the AFL have shown themselves to be. It’s a monty that the changes proposed by the clubs will be perfectly addressed, even if it means loss of revenue, extra work for, or even tarnishing the good name of the AFL.
This will be… educational.
I’m starting to really like this draft. Lots of players putting up some good performances in a variety of roles.
If I could pick the brains of two of our resident draft experts about a few players - @noobermensch and @THE_DON1, what are your thoughts on Hynes of the Stingrays, Jacques from the Falcons and Day-Wicks out of Bendigo.
They seem to be having increasingly good performances - and in Day-Wicks’ case, has built back from early season injury.
What style of player do you see them as (all different I know) and where do you see their current draft ranges.
No urgency, just curious as to your thoughts when you have a moment to spare.
I havent made videos on any of them yet and I tend to have a better idea of a kid once I’ve done that.
I know Day-Wicks decently well having seen a fair bit of him last season. He’s been playing as one of those medium sized hybrid mid/forwards that each talent league team has a couple of these days. He hits the scoreboard and is pretty powerful. He’s had a quiet start to the season, I suspect he’s been injured? Not fully across that though.
Jacques is a small/medium defender, takes a LOT of liberties with his defensive assignment from the amount that I’ve seen of him. Runs off, pushes right up to the wings, very attacking and finds a lot of footy, nice kick. Pretty skinny at this stage. Think Nic Martin, but even more cavalier with his matchup.
Hynes I’ve not focused on yet, I’ve only really noted him in passing. But he’s on my list for this week after his huge game on the weekend so you’ll be able to have a look for yourself soon.
edit: draft range wise all three are super difficult to peg for a variety of reasons. Day-Wicks was definitely a top 20 candidates before the season, but he hasnt played enough yet to get a feel for how he’s developed from last year. The other two are later/deeper prospects, but they’ve both started the season really well so who knows? I generally dont like making a call on draft ranges until after the champs.
There was news in the Warrnambool Standard that Finn O’Sullivan was injured on his return
Wow I hadnt heard that. What a disappointing start to the season for the kid. Any report on what/how bad?
Bo Allan’s recent video was looking very similar to Sammy Durham; tall and rangey yet strong enough to take on the tackle and quick enough to stream out of the middle toward home, his kicking also looked low, flat and penetrating. Also seems handy in the air.
I really like him, but I have him pegged as more of a flanker or a third tall than a mid right now. That game was in the WAFL Colts, which this season in particular is a weaker comp. He was bulldozing his way through multiple skinny 16 and 17 year olds to create space for his disposal. If he wants to play mid he’s going to need to develop quicker hands in close I feel, and get better at anticipating/timing his attack on the ruck tap drop zone.
But yeah, he’s super powerful, big, quick, nice disposal. Lots to like there.
A late dose of Kako for you all.
I just love this kid, and I reckon that unfortunately for us he wont continue flying under the radar for long. I think the standout feature in this one is his relentless attack, quick decision making and execution of the damaging option. He almost never seems to pause or take longer than he needs to weigh up his options.
Mmmm, has flaws. There is hope.
They are apparently considering changes to the NGA rules which might come into effect this year. I doubt it will be in a way that helps us, but you never know.
(you know)
Sorry…that bit of news has drifted off the bottom of my feeds. Too much racing news in the Bool recently.
Our pick this season could be outside the top 10 if his stocks keep rising we just take him with our first.
Much like a younger Sammy Durham
Matt Whitlock and Joe Berry from last round @noobermensch would make for some good videos, both are firmly in that top 15 mix
Are there anymore Wallas in the Tiwi Isalnds we could draft say with one of our late picks?
