The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

No accident in that he requested a trade? They had a contract offer in front of him. It sounds exactly like an accident.

Apparently Battle compo likely to be end of first round which would be good for us

That will mean Saints match won’t it?

I doubt the hawks will pay a first round pick for battle so end of first round seems acceptable really

Saints will match it to force a trade you’d think. Hawks won’t wanna do that, so will they therefore up his pay a bit to generate a round 1 compensation pick you’d think? Better to pay more cash than give away picks in a trade when you really don’t have to.

From memory we tried to use him on the forward line. Then, after 5 or so years threw him in defence.

Saints can’t match. He’s unrestricted isn’t he?

… Yeah, he’s unrestricted. Saints have no say in it.

Tell you what we can’t afford and this is repetitive letting guys like Massimo walk, this is firmly on Brad.

Massimo left for opportunity first and foremost and a coach who believed in him.

Yes there was additional security but don’t be fooled by the contract as the primary issue.

So ridiculous we are watching him do this at hawthorn.

Cos they have a list of nothings after bolton and co leave.

well they can heavily overpay him to entice him to stay

which they might try anyway, their backline will take a massive hit without him

Even if we did did keep Mass how do we know he would be playing like this with us?

Every chance he would become an average player with us our development of players is worst in the league

He wouldn’t be, he’d be in the 2s

Correct.

We need talented players and you don’t let that walk
Because you prefer to trial Jake Kelly on a wing.

Actually a disgrace.

Tell that to the rest of blitz i have ages ago im not one on here every week complaning about it

He’s showing AA level traits… and it seems as though we were incapable of seeing these traits when we had the kid sitting right under our noses. This wasn’t a situation where Mass was desperate to leave by all reports. If we’d been prepared to offer similar terms and had moved quickly enough, he would still be on the list.

It has to make you question our coaching staff, or the connection between the coaching staff and the list management team, our talent identification… all of that. This has to be considered a massive (pun intended) red flag. We had an AA level talent sitting there under our noses and we let him walk for nothing because we were too incompetent to either identify it or communicate his value to list management.

We can’t afford to be making these kind of mistakes.

Good post, heaps to agree with but I think Nino has a point. Wasn’t one of the issues with Mass that he wasn’t able to make an effort to connect and bond with the coaches and playing group? How does this impact his psyche? Is it not fair enough to suggest that Mass may not have had the season he’s having unless in a different environment where he can make a fresh start socially?
