I feel what’s actually been reported is far more believable.
We lowballed him on length, hawks offered 2 then we panicked and offered the same. But what we didn’t offer was a clear vision for his role in the side and a guaranteed senior spot, as opposed to spending god knows how long in the seconds under Scott and being ■■■■■■ around with emergency/sub selections every second week.
Mass is Ted Richards and houli all over again. Terrible treatment from the coach, the fan base knew he had talent but the club was too arrogant and thought they knew best, idiots. It was always going to backfire.
He was on a rookie contract. I’d say regardless of how happy a player is at a club it would be remiss of their managers not to be finding out from other clubs what their players are worth. This is the trade landscape we’re in…I’m not happy Mass left and I’m happy to agree that Brad has some level of culpability but I just can’t cop that it’s all his fault he left is all.
They won’t have an answer for that. They are reacting emotionally to the situation so a logical solution wouldn’t come about. Hypothetically you would need to get a fair few free agents through the door, potentially upgrade some rookies and then get some new rookies.
Realistically:
Out
Heppell
Hunter
Weideman
Wanganeen
In
Pick 8
Pick 28
1 free agent
Space for rookie, ssp etc
If players request trades, my guess would be they would be asking for a player (like the duursma/BZT situation).
There’s not many saying it was ALL Brad, most are also throwing considerable blame on dodos decisions around length offered.
Together they burnt one of the best kicks to walk in our doors for a long time. Just another case of good players being misused and mismanaged by this club.
Like I said, I’d have happily seen Cox go. I also saw little value in Goldy as a player this year, coach sure.
I’m confused by this exchange. You make it sound like the draft gurus are the ones reacting emotionally and suggesting we make 8 list changes?
Personally, I don’t expect us to make too many radical changes to the list. Like it or not, we’re committed long term to a number of players that are under performing, like 2MP.
The looming Kako bid makes it a little awkward to bring in additional draft capital in the middle rounds by trading out players, as it will be absorbed in matching the bid. If we do trade out players, I suspect it’ll be for future picks. We might try and get another pick in the top group this year before Kako, but that’ll be difficult given I suspect a number of teams will be trying the same thing.
My guess is, we take our first, we match on Kako, we perhaps live trade in a third pick in the middle rounds… and maybe we take another late pick. We could choose to upgrade El-Hawli to the main list. We might take someone in the rookie draft, and we likely pre-list Nguyen as a Cat B.
So 4, maybe 5 changes to the main list at a guess.
