What’s the earliest pick that kako would need to be bid on in order for our pick 28 by itself to be sufficient to match?
I’m guessing about pick 20?

Pick 22. Pick 21 would have 4 points left over.
Obviously pick 28 will get chewed up by matching kako bid so if we wanted to get another late first rounder then I guess we’d have to:
Match kako bid at say pick 15.
Trade our future first for picks ~16 and 20.
We couldn’t make the trade referred to above before the kako bid otherwise the pick ~16 that we received in the trade would get chewed up when we match.
Or maybe we just trade our future first now for another top ~12 pick
The reason why I don’t mind the trade above for the two picks is because shannahan or faull will be available in the late teens. A top 12 pick on either would be massive overs
Sorry Noober I didn’t mean to be condescending by using the term ‘draft gurus’ I was just asking for people who know to explain the logistics of it - us having 2 picks and us needing to replace 10 players who are nge. I feel 2025 is going to be a wasted year before we can stockpile picks.
Well everyone other than ‘the coaches know best’ nuffies.
I actually think in a lot of cases the personal relationship coaches build with certain players and don’t build with others, makes their judgement on talent more compromised. We’d likely be a better team if there was a team selection panel that sits separate like the old Australian cricket team days.
If you’re just asking about the pure rules of how we could get enough warm bodies, then the answer is that every team is given enough draft picks on draft night to fill their available list spots. Picks that are “used up” matching bids are in fact just moved to the back of the draft. If we traded out our 3rd-8th round picks, we would simply be given 9th-14th round picks. As long as you have spots to fill, you can keep reading out names.
If you’re talking about finding good players, that’s a whole subjective discussion.
All good mate, I was more responding to the guy who replied to you.
I get what you were asking. Its a tough puzzle given our lack of draft capital this year and the Kako bid. Truth is, its difficult to do a massive single draft investment like 8+ selections without preparing for it a year in advance.
The problem is people keep carrying on that it was scott not playing him as the reason he left , despite every interview or article from mass suggesting that it was contract length.
Do you think any player would come out in the media and say ‘yeah I was pretty sick of being sub every week and how the coach was treating me so I bounced’?
No but he could have said I left for more opportunity or game time and that would be perfectly acceptable, but every single interview or article he has said it was contract, the whole it’s Brads fault is a blitz myth
If Scott actually rated him he would have played him, and he would definitely been offered 2 years plus.
He was only offered one year because Scott/list management didn’t see him as important piece going forward. Worth a year, but ok to see him go.
It was frustrating to see him played predominantly as the sub. You can see he’s blossomed under a coach who backed him in.
He’s openly said a positional change was a factor in him moving. Not hard to infer what he meant alongside the subtle jabs he’s taken at the club since going across
That’s ridiculous so he was meant to play every game regardless and not develop in the vfl at all?.
What about when he has 100 minutes of footy against Geelong gets 13 touches and 2 tackles is he meant to hold he’s spot
None of us know what he was being asked to work on, I dare say they would have given him specific metrics or roles that he needs to meet.
Ok that note can we leave the mass stuff out of the draft thread going forward or maybe have the @moderators reopen the mass thread so we don’t have to have it pollute every topic on here
Massimo D’Ambrosio
i mean just dont propagate it yourself?
We do need to get more than pick 8 plus Kako, and we certainly IMO shouldn’t be trading our 2025 first.
We have a long list of players who might get us picks in this draft and who, realistically, we wouldn’t miss much.
Guelfi, Wright, Cox, Shiel, Stringer head the list for me.
There are also plenty like Hind, Kelly, Weideman who should go, but won’t be worth anything.
If Bryan or Hobbs want to go for more opportunity, fine, as long as we get full value. Hobbs to Richmond, say, who will have multiple late first rounders, can easily be done eg Hobbs plus 29 for a pick in the teens, Hobbs plus 8 for 2 in the teens (gets you 2 picks before Kako which could get Berry and Shanahan).
Bryan I would only let go if someone offers a good pick eg Bryan plus 29 for a pick less than 20.
Stringer and Wright could get you good value if the right club was interested. Cox?? I’m not sure how stupid other clubs might be.
We have Kelly for that role.
Who or what did we trade all of our late picks for last year
