The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Jackson Macrae?

or we throw the kitchen sink at Reid and we have a gun midfielder for the next ten years.

Its hard to get a gun mid when you rarely see the top 5 picks.

Hypothetically. if we kept daniher, saad, , mckenna, massimo
lose Perkins, Cox how would we have looked?

b: McGrath McKay Saad
hb: Redman Ridley McKenna
c: D’Ambrosio Durham Duursma
hf: Stringer Daniher Gresham
f; Langford Caddy Davey
r;Draper Parish Merrett
int:Caldwell, Roberts, Guelfi, Heppell
Sub: Hobbs

That side almost looks competitive.
did we blunder the 2020 picks, bad time to take them.

Did we?! Did we ever! Absolute worst year to end up with 3 top 10 picks! But not that we had any choice in getting those pics vs keeping Saad and Daniher, both wanted to leave desperately. From memory we could have matched Daniher - I think he was restricted FA? - but did we really want to keep a guy who didn’t want to be there?

A more decisive club would have traded Daniher the year before for the 2 hypothetical first rounders that Sydney say they never got a chance to offer to us because we had no interest in sitting down with them.

That would bump our pick up a spot.

I still think Archer Day-Wicks could be a handy pick up later in the draft. Has a little bit of Jamie Elliot about him.
Good over head mark, can play up the ground as a link up guy, beats his man through reading the play well.

Think he has something to offer

An interesting day for Travaglia. Switching back to defense instead of the midfield role he had been playing, he copped an early injury and spent the majority of the first quarter off the ground as a result. That injury may have been effecting him when he returned to play as he struggled to effect the game as much as he typically does, although his pressure and tackling was still as intense as ever. With the Pioneers needing a spark Travaglia was moved into the forward line in the fourth quarter and produced an exciting cameo, kicking a couple of highlight reel worthy goals to show just how much untapped potential he possesses.

He has talent that’s for sure. Just super inconsistent this year… but maybe that’s party to do with the role he’s been playing.

I’m not against it. I imagine he’ll be a pretty late pick so it wouldn’t cost us much if we did want him.

The Flying Northern Italian doesn’t sound as good as saying THE FLYING VIKING.

I’m still a Travaglia man but this is problematic.

He doesnt so much fly as run flat out through brick walls with no thought for his own physical safety.

I know, I really just wanted an excuse to say THE FLYING VIKING

Out of interest, how do you personally rate the viking, Alex Tauru? Who’d be your best player comparison?

I reckon they know he is gone but trying to bid up his contract so they get first round. I’m sure they will in the end, sadly.

Would love to know the truth of that whole situation. Wonder if it’s scuttlebutt, if the club genuinely thought they could talk Daniher around, or if it was a case of Dodoro having been there too long and drinking his own “all the jackets” bathwater

Much better quality in the 2019 draft. Probably true.

Have a relative with the same surname that might be his kid

So when is Lloyds son ready to be drafted?

Maybe a late pick? From AFL.com.au

Richmond forward Sam Davidson is widely considered the favourite to win the VFL’s best young player award after returning from a unique path in country football.

The 22-year-old has been invited to the state combine after kicking 26.13 in 2024, with the Tigers interested in adding him to their AFL list. Adelaide, Sydney, Greater Western Sydney, Essendon and others have also expressed interest.

He looks like an Essendon type of pick, i could see us going with him. Do you still have the Nguyen forward pocket video on the to do list noobermensch?

No worrires. Essendon has already* stated its highest priority is recruiting “jet midfielders”.

*this was widely published after 2001 Grand Final.
