The Best 22 thread

Nailed it.

Pretty spot on 22, except for Hobbs who plays in starting team.

who does he push out? Cox?

Completely different players… Hobbs isn’t close to being a wingman

Where is @ivan?

i get that. just trying to work out who gets pushed out?

only way i see Hobbs pushing into that team is injury or if one of the other mids (Langford?) takes Cox’s spot.

We will never have our best 22 available especially during covid times.

That being said I wanna actually see Hobbs play in a competitive match (not match sim) before getting too excited about him.

It’s his first season whatever the case so will mostly be forward. Wouldn’t have fitness to play mostly midfield.

I’m actually really liking the look of our backline, quite rightly as you mention exciting for Reid to grow over the coming years along with potentially Brand.

Midfield is super talented now and it’s amazing how addition of Parish along with Caldwell it’s tough to fit them all in there. We will have a top 3 midfield going into this season.

Our forwardline does look a little one dimensional especially without Tippa in there. I think Hobbs will get a big look in this season and I think he will play almost every game if fit on that small forward role. Along with Shiel playing high half forward role on rotation. I’m not against Hind playing up forward either as experimented with it last year and McGrath can play down back if so.

agree entirely. i was just asking Blitzy, who was suggesting he is best 22, how he thought he’d squeeze him in.

I think Hobbsy comes in for one of Smith, Snelling, Langford or even McGrath (who I seeing being pushed to half back this season) … he will be in our best team by mid year

Hurley has more of chance of playing than McGrath does of being dropped mate…

Currently where I am. Seems to change weekly

Back line
Laverde Stewart Kelly
Heppell Ridley Hind

Midfield
Draper Parish Shiel
Durham Merrett Langford

Forward line
Snelling Jones Stringer
Francis Wright Smith

Int: McGrath, Caldwell, Perkins and Redman

Sub: Cox

Emg: Hobbs, Guelfi, Baldwin, Cutler

If Hobbs keeps starring in Practice matches then he my force his way in. Cox for me needs to win a spot. Not a guaranteed selection as yet. Truck still may play him however to pump games into him…which i would totally get. Durham would be the likely omission if that happened.

Have you seen the Reid hype in any small snippets of play during training?

I reckon that’s bang on, and only the last spot is up for grabs for one of the kids - Perkins, Hobbs, and Cox. I expect them to get game time before Guelfi.

I think your current team is probably the most accurate one right now, as you’re seeing the form in pre-season that we are not. Glad to see Baldwin make it in as an emergency, but no Waterman?

Seeing so many people leaving Cox and Perkins out of the best 22!!!

Is this a case of familiarity breeds contempt because these boys are bloody fantastic and will not be wasted kicking around in the 2s.

Wake up guys.

(Sorry Handypoint….this was not meant as a response to your post)

In regards to the kids ie Cox, Perko, Hobbs I think it will be more who fits the available role and who has form. I remember last year Perkins playing in the 2’s and stringing a few really solid games together before he was given a chance. Cox was straight in as we had a need for a tall running wingman. With a full team I’d say couple of them will have to strut their stuff in the 2’s and before they force their way in. But we all know injuries are bound to happen and if its to a player / position one of the young lads can cover then sweet get’m in.

I understand the hype around Hobbs (refer to Bidzy love letters) but I don’t think he will force out the senior plays prior to round 1. If he does become a starter by mid year then I’ll be thoroughly impressed. Bidzy has obviously seen Hobbs play a lot but we all know AFL is a different beast and it can take a few seasons before some of the kids get the tank and body to play with the big boys. I’m happy to be wrong though

I’m genuinely excited about the talent we have coming through and its easy to get swept up in the hype of player x,y,z but lets just relax a bit and give them time to develop. But I can see Bidzy going postal if Hobbs doesn’t get picked round 1 .

I’ve got a bit of soft spot for the forward line lads so would love for Jones improve on a great 2021 and for Baldwin to show us why he was so highly touted in his junior years.

Waterman would be very close. Like to see his form early this year with improved fitness base. He could easily come on and be right in 22 mix
