The Cricket Thread (part 11) - from The Champing

Cummins arguably did more in one test than Archer did in 3. Bethall should be in there, as should Neser

Actually, I’m being a little unfair.
We got them all out way more than they did, so…
chuckles in Ashes victory

Bethell I can sort of understand , only played the two tests .

But the Archer one is a flat out joke. 9 wickets in three test matches at 27 is not at all great. Neser had 15 at 19.9 .

And really, Stokes is fortunate to be in there , was horrible with the bat and 15 wickets at 25 is also behind Neser. But I presume they ran the vote positionally and he was probably voted in against Green. But in that case, Smith and Root shouldn’t both be in the side.

They had no problems sneaking Smith in out of position.

Just went back and edited the post with the primary role ( for batting lineup order) stats.

Fun fact - Ollie Pope had a better batting average than Ben Stokes in this series. So did Inglis, Jacks, Green, JSmith, Neser, Doggett, Weatherald, Duckett, Starc, Khawaja, and of course Webster doesn’t have an average

Oh look - more poms than aussies in the team. I guess morally they get the ashes after all.

I’ve loved the pitches England has produced in the last 2 or 3 years. Yes, they are flattish, but of course overhead conditions affect pitches in England, however, there are nearly always results, especially, with the way teams play these days.

But they still get results on these pitches and you don’t have two day tests.

Sure, but come on…
It’s not like they have to worry about their pitches being a dried out minefield, is it.
I’m not sure they could if they tried.

oH yOu lEfT tOo mUcH gRaSs oN…

You often get atmospheric conditions during parts of a test match which are conducive to swing and seam which allows you to prepare flatter pitches. Anyway, my eyes are on Perth which has presented two ordinary pitches in the last two summers.

That’s really…avoiding the point.
Dried mud in twenty degrees is one thing.
Flat pitch, sure.

They get it wrong and there’s 1500 runs scored.
We get it wrong with 40 degree days and people get hurt.

Nope

They got dicked 4-1 and have more Soap Dodgers in the team than Australians. LOL!

At the end of the day two day test matches will sort themselves out as long as it’s the batsmen playing stupid shots that get themselves out. It’s still a result driven sport so batsmen/coaches that fail will be dropped and teams will work out ways to win. MCG test shouldn’t have only lasted two days, dispite the extra grass on the wicket. What was considered a good pitch 20 years ago should still be what is considered a good pitch now.

More voted for root than head (ahem), and more voted for Archer than Boland…

Fraser MacGurk makes a glorious 17.

How he represented Australia is one of the greatest mysteries of all time. Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, Encyclopaedia Brown and Sherlock Holmes together wouldn’t be able to solve it…

I still don’t trust Hawkeye. Reckon that was missing leg.

I find it mildly bewildering that spin now plays a larger part in T20 games than it does in the recent tests.
