The Cricket Thread (part 11) - from The Champing

Adelaide isn’t home for Lyon and hasn’t been fo a few years but he will definitely come in IMO.

I’d think that Doggett and Neser go out for Cummins and Lyon.

Green is good enough to bat top 5 and should be given time

Wouldn’t surprise me to see them rest Boland.

Cummins for Doggett

Lyon for Boland

Im still filthy about Cam Greens dismissal but expect he will keep his place.

Yes, Green is probably due for a big score and should be retained, despite the idiotic way he gave up his wicket.

I was forgetting that Lyon had gone back to NSW; yes, he’ll probably be selected for Adelaide. Personally, if we need a bloody finger-spinner I’d prefer to see Agar selected - at least he can bat ! - but that’s not very likely, even though he went okay in South Africa.

I’d like to see Neser kept on, too, but the only way I could see that happening would be if Inglish got given his cards, which would mean swapping a batsman for a bowler - but given Starc’s form with the bat, the selectors might just consider it. Just.

I think they might rest Boland and play Nesser. Keep Boland fresh for Melbourne

So it would be

Out: Dog, Boland (managed)

In: Lyon, Cummins

The 11 would then be

Head

Weatherald

Marnus

Smith

Green

Inglis

Carey

Starc

Nesser

Cummins

Lyon

This would be most likely, although they could leave Neser in and rest Bolo to come back fresh for the G. But I think at 2-0 they will pick their best for now and see what happens with workload. Still not 100% convinced they won’t pick Khawaja for Inglis, with Head back to the middle.

Agar can’t even get a game for WA, and is probably the worst offie to ever play for Australia. Lyon a definite in.

They ain’t playing 5 bowlers and Green. They will either keep the same top 6 or Khawaja will come back in (like it or not).

Cummins for Doggett, and then either Boland or Neser depending if they want to rest Boland.

Agat? Is this serious? The bloke is a complete spud.

In fact, his batting is better than his bowling and he isnt good enough to bat in the top 6 for his own state.

Yep, agree re Agar.

Lyon is still by far our best offie and should be almost first picked for Adelaide. No way can you leave him out of the next test as the pitch will suit him.

I hope we don’t get too cute at selection, need to keep the foot on the throat.

Why are we even debating this?

Bailey said on day 1 in Brisbane that Lyon is playing in Adelaide.

2 of Boland, Doggett, Neser will make way for Cummins and Lyon. I’m inclined to think it’ll be Neser and Doggett, although they may want to rest Bolo ahead of the back to back to back tests. I’m not sure it’s really necessary though, given they’ve had long breaks between 1-2-3, and they’ll no doubt get an extra days rest between 3-4-5.

Is he swapping hands, or practising his wrist spin? Because the last time I saw him bowl, he took it the other direction.

He wouldn’t be in the top 4 or 5 names. Doesn’t play much for WA (and I don’t really rate Roccichioli).

He’s not an offie, either.

To fill the void between Tests that needs filling lest we be sucked up a tube like Augustus Gloop.

go on then, share with the class who has the better average this year, and explain how that fits with one being Vice Captain and the other one finish.

In: Lyon, Cummins
Out: Nesser, Doggett

Fairly straight forward I would have thought

I’d also be tempted to go Renshaw for Inglis and put Head back at five. But, equally, if the selectors want to give Inglis a good chance to lock in a test spot (and they seemingly do); good time to do it.

Going to be far more batting friendly conditions the next three tests.

I’d actually corrected that from “offie” to “finger-spinner”, given that he’s a leftie, but for some reason the correction didn’t take. I’ll try it again…

Hazelwood ruled out for the series.

Cummins confirmed to return.

And McDonald has said Boland will not be rested.

Good move. Scottie doesn’t need a rest.
Also agree with the bowling changes.
