The last one hooped an absolute mile! This camera angle shows it a bit better. Absolute jaffa!
Marnus made an unbeaten 170 in the same match at Headingly.
Archer and Olly Stone both appear to be cooked with elbow and hamstring injuries respectively. They said Stone was on crutches, which is pretty unusual if it was just a stock standard strain. So it must be pretty bad.
Leaves Mark Wood as the only real express quick.
Siddle ended up squeezing a 2yr contract out of Victoria which will see him play until he is 40.
Holland not offered a contract though
IT BEGINS:
Although I’m not sure they’ve chosen a great guy to run this on. The bloke seems like his elbow is COOKED.
The deal that’ll change cricket: IPL team offers Pom millions… so England’ll have to ask to pick him
England quick Jofra Archer has reportedly been offered a multimillion-dollar, year-round contract which would give an IPL side control over whether he plays for the Poms.
The groundbreaking deal, first reported by the Daily Mail, would see the oft-injured speedster locked into the Mumbai Indians - days after he left the IPL for treatment on an elbow injury.
IPL teams, and their owners who now own franchises across other T20 leagues, are hoping to make permanent contracts more frequent so they can keep their players across their many sides - and control when they play for their countries.
For example if Archer was to sign the deal now, Mumbai would determine whether he could feature in the Ashes.
“If the Ashes and England’s 50-over World Cup defence had not been on the horizon, Archer may have played through the pain barrier in the IPL, but for the moment he is intent on prioritising his international career,” the report stated.
“Archer has yet to hold talks with Mumbai over moving to an annual contract, a revolutionary departure IPL franchises hope to introduce to coincide with their next mega-auction in 2025.”
Archer only returned to international cricket in January after being sidelined for more than a year with elbow and back injuries.
But his right elbow has continued to trouble him and the latest setback makes him a doubt for the Ashes this summer and the 50-over World Cup later this year.
Archer, who was bought by Mumbai for $1.06 million in last year’s auction despite not being available for the whole season, played five of Mumbai’s 10 matches so far this season.
He looked off-colour when he did play, taking just two wickets, and reportedly travelled to Belgium to visit a specialist during a short IPL break.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that Archer would return home “with immediate effect”.
“Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery,” it said in a statement. “However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging.” It further added that Archer “will work on his rehab with the ECB medical department and Sussex County Cricket Club, respectively”.
The 34-year-old Jordan, who has played 87 T20 matches for England and taken 96 wickets, joins Mumbai for $243,887, according to the team’s statement.
Wood is on personal leave and unsure of returning date
Robinson and Stokes both getting painkiller injections to play currently
Just in? I could swear channel 7 announced a shorter bbl season when they renewed the broadcast right
It was talked about happening, but this is the first official announcement of it.
That’s very good. The shorter the season, the more likely you are to have overseas players stay for the whole thing
The comp desperately needs as much talent as it can get
Not sure it helps TBH. More and more International comps starting up which offer way more money than the BBL and with many of them going to be owned by IPL franchises you will see players contracted year round by the franchise to represent all their different teams.
Yeah, nah Baz.
Well said. I mean countries like Australia and England will be less affected by it, at least for now, given the fact centrally contracted players get well remunerated and so the temptation for the IPL/Franchise T20 money, whilst still there, they can either turn it down or cut short their IPL stint to serve International duty knowing they’re still being paid well to play for their countries. Sth Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, etc not so much. So long as playing Test cricket for Australia is still the pinnacle of cricket for Aussies and not playing in the IPL or BBL, we should be OK. But we can’t be naive to it, nor be surprised if players decide to take up more lucrative opportunities that take up less of their time, and they get paid more for their services…
I think for the fringe players who don’t get picks for tests etc, they will move on pretty quickly to franchise cricket instead of trying to force their way into the national team
As you said, some of the nations whose players don’t get paid as well. They will really suffer. WI are already pretty awful, can’t imagine what they will be like when all of this stuff starts
They are almost done as it is. Very little support and agreement between the different nations there. It makes me wonder if this could finally kill off the West Indies as a cricket “nation”?
I could honestly see them being completely done as a test nation and only playing LO’s stuff
Or only playing tests against Ireland, Netherlands etc
