The Cricket Thread (part 5) - from March 2023

And once again Adelaide has to do the heavy lifting because our fans actually rock up whilst Perth with their utterly pathetic attendance gets looked after again. Quite frankly the communications from CA are an insult to the SACA and they have very good reason to be upset
Still willing to bet far more rock up in Adelaide for the Windies than what Perth will get for Pakistan.
Pretty late start to the summer due to the WC and it never really feels like summer until the first ball of the test. At least we should see some stacked Shield sides before the first test

5 tests vs Pakistan and WI, so that’ll mean about 16-17 days of cricket.

4 thumping wins and one draw due to Sydney rain.

Pakistan will put up more of a fight than WI. But yeah it’s not a massive headline summer of cricket. Seems only India and England rate, which is why world cricket appears to be condensing rather than expanding as all the money and interest in the game surrounds 3 notions. Sad.

Really only one country with the money

Why are we playing West Indies 2 summers in a row?

Last year was the end of the WTC cycle and this year is the start of a new WTC cycle. I guess they had to squeeze in last years series after Covid and other fixture issues

Does it really matter who comes? India is the only team that will give us a contest here, and we can’t play them every summer

Their bowling stocks are starting to look a lot like Essendon’s injury list.

No one who bowls over 140kms an hour is fit. All their young early draft picks like Anderson are under a cloud

Have they hired Shaun Murphy?

Foakes dropped yet that crab Crawley retains his spot

Who’s going to keep? Surely not Buttler or Billing?

Bairstow has been recalled as a keeper-batter. He hasn’t been England’s regular Test keeper since 2019, in his two County games this northern summer he’s made 27, 36, 20* and 0 and for all the talk about his returns last year, in his last three Tests he made 49, 0, 18 and 27. And he’s coming back from a serious injury and long lay-off. Oh, and he got a pair last time they played Ireland.

Foakes is a genuine world-class cricketer, is widely accepted as the best keeper in England and is averaging 50+ for Surrey this summer. I’m really disappointed for him, he’s been screwed again by the Pom selectors.

The archer injury is completely on Root. Totally mismanaged him from day 1

It’s insane that Foakes isn’t in the team

It’s even more insane that Crawley is still in the team

Is there some underlying reason why Foakes isnt in the team? Is there a personality clash? Is he a party boy?

Bewildering.

He can’t Bazball
