The Cricket Thread (part 5) - from March 2023

I don’t mind this from the Trav perspective. I think #5 is perfect for him at this stage.

But Warner is so cooked it’s not funny and him going on the Ashes tour is sheer lunacy.

If Warner goes to England the Aussie cricket team will lose so much credibility. As you say he’s so cooked it not funny.

It will keep Wood and Archer out of the English lineup, because Broad and Anderson will be fighting over who gets to bowl to Warner.

This Warner has any care for the Country he should not force us to endure this again:

Mitch Marsh with a Shield ton this weekend. Surely he plays in the fourth test :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Fair old 10th wicket partnership he was a part of!

Please don’t.

Exciting performance from Spencer Johnson. Reminds me a little of Zaheer Khan with a bit more zip.

Yep. He’ll be dropped from the test side within 18 months along with Ollie Poop.

I wouldn’t be comfortable with him opening in England. #5 is definitely his spot long-term but maybe he’s an opener in sub-continental conditions? It may be the best place to bat him over there, obviously we can’t win the series but by chance we may have found a key component for our tour in 2027.

I like having Handscomb in the side though, and if having Head opening keeps Warner out and Handscomb in it’s over-all a net win. Neither Bancroft or Warner are going to average above 23 opening the batting in England. Head could average 40 odd and throw Anderson/Broad out of the attack early.

I love Handscomb in India but I think he’s a horses for courses selection. I don’t reckon he’s suited to English conditions. His county record certainly indicates as such. That being said, Warner shouldn’t be on this tour at all either.

Final of the Vic Premier Women’s cricket on now. EMPLCC (integrating the Essendon FC logo) making 249 up against the Melbourne Cricket Club 1/4 in response.

2:28pm 1/16 in the 6th over, putting the pressure on. Go Bombers!
2:46pm 5/20 at the end of the 10th, looks like the Bombers have one hand on the silverwear!

Watching Warner as a walking wicket once, was more than enough.

“I thought the absolute best time for Davey to retire, if he was thinking about it at all, was after the Sydney Test match here in Australia,” Ponting told the ICC Review podcast.

“He’d just played his 100th Test in Melbourne, and obviously got 200 in the first innings down there. And to bow out in front of his home crowd is obviously the way that every player would like to finish their careers.

“Who knows now that opportunity might not come around again for Davey, you know. That’s nearly another 12 months away.

“I’d love it if he could do that. I think it’d be fitting if he could do that, finish in front of his home crowd. But he’s going to have to play really well between now and then for that to happen.”

The Domestic One Day Cup Final is on Wednesday.

Western Australia’s side, much like their T20 franchise is insanely strong. They reckon their XI will be:

Josh Philippe
D’Arcy Short
Cam Bancroft
Mitch Marsh
Josh Inglis
Ashton Turner
Marcus Stoinis
Ashton Agar
Joel Paris
Andrew Tye
Jason Behrendorff

If Aaron Hardie and Hilton Cartwright can’t make the team you know it’s strong.

Surely Hardie plays

Ponting speaks for nearly all of us.

He’d be in my team!

Just noting down the “predicted XI” that they had on the CA website.

Cummins understandably staying home so Smith to Captain again. Depending on the pitch I’d expect it to be either Murphy or Boland for the last spot
