The Cricket Thread (part 6) - from July 2023 (Bartholemew Frinton-Smythe, Humphrey Wigbert-Porter, and Quinten Breckenridge)

Name your price on Australia reaching 400 and chasing this down then.

2/10

Great start to the chase :+1:t4:

How did we become a cricket minnow so quickly?

Another fine chase against the India B-Team on the postage stamp sized ground.

Funnily enough both teams had to play on the same sized ground and the boundaries weren’t reduced when Australia were batting. Quite staggering development really.

5 losses in a row and the ODI World Cup preparations are looking right on track.

It’s OK though. They’ll get a chance to smack a powerhouse like the Netherlands at some point in the group stage and all will be rosy again.

We just won the World Test Championship?

My point exactly

ODI performances in the last 5 games are minnow worthy.

I’d be inclined to drop Stoinus who needs to meet the cannon and chew his gum on the WACA permanently. Green not far off a spell, play the spinning all-rounder instead of Stoin.

Smith
Warner
Marsh
Maxwell
Carey
Green
Agar
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood.

I think one of the big 3 shouldn’t reguarly play. Can’t be Starc as this tournament belongs to him and Hazlewood has been our best quick, having Pat as (c) ruins the balance we need to strike.

Sorry but your game calling was very off tonight. They destroyed us with the bat then destroyed us with the ball. Ground size had nothing to do with it.

A proposed XI I saw last night had Head in and Cummins out.
I’m not sure Head can come back from a fractured hand that quickly, though.

What was really noticeable last night, to me at least, was that none of our batsman were either confident enough or quick enough through the hands to get under the ball and loft it, even to the quicks.
Which I guess is why Maxwell is a lock in this XI.

I agree, we were woeful with both bat and ball.

Trav didn’t need surgery thankfully but is going to be in a cast for 4-5 weeks.
He still hasnt been told if the selectors are going to include him in the squad but oh is selected he would head over and hopes to get the last 3 pool games in. By then our WC might be over and they won’t bother bother though.

Pretty important games late, aren’t there?

Need him back for the NZ game.
I still fancy our chances at making the last four.
Count India as a loss, obviously. Our form against South Africa in the T20’s was pretty, pretty good.
Definitely fancy us against Sri Lanka
Pakistan is a danger game, and if we drop that we need to beat NZ or England.

So freakin’ weird to see Netherlands and no West Indies.

I think you guys will make the final 4.

South Africa are bang average

Sri Lanka ditto

Pakistan has all sorts of injury issues to their bowlers, I think they will be the first big team dumped out of the tournament

You have a very strong squad, I wouldn’t be reading too much into the warm up games. It’s all about getting some fringe guys time in the middle and seeing who can slot into which places in the team

Absolute earliest he said the cast will come off will be around Oct 20th and then he needs further scans. Providing he gets the all clear a week in the nets and maybe back for NZ at best.
Obviously still a chance the selectors err on the side of caution and leave him out

Not wanting to discount the other teams, or Australia’s ability to put in an absolute shocker, but that NZ game looks to be the most important.

India, England, NZ and Australia should be the top 4.
And I really can’t see England dropping the ball, even if they lose their first game (and I don’t think they will).

Anyway.
Lots to look forward to.

Head
Warner
Marsh
Smith
Maxwell
pls.

I don’t see us making top 4 on current form. Rather than prep us for the world cup, these last two series look to have broken the confidence of our bowlers. Zampa, Green and Abbott all getting taken to the cleaners now but were all important in recent odi series. They need a big form turn around.

Green looks shook.
Zampa’s pretty tough, and Abbott never stopped trying last night.
He closed out pretty well.
