The Cricket Thread (part 7) - The Mitch Marsh Test Renaissance period

Edited for Blitz accuracy.

Pretty sure the Adelaide D/N test does

Pakistan have been docked two points on the World Test Championship (WTC) standings for maintaining a slow over rate in the Test series opener against Australia in Perth. They were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

After Pakistan were thumped by 360 runs in the Perth Test, they had slipped to No. 2 on the WTC standings and after the penalty, their points percentage fell to 61.11 from 66.67.

Pakistan were also fined 10% of their match fee, with the sanctions being imposed by match referee Javagal Srinath. The umpires for the Test, Joel Wilson, Richard Illingworth, Michael Gough and fourth umpire Donovan Koch, levelled the charge. Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the offence and sanction, so there was no formal hearing.

That’s not bad considering we only get about 2 x days play each SCG test

Oh bummer, they’ll go from not even being close to qualifying for the WTC final, to being slightly further away.

Forecast not looking too great for Boxing Day.

It’s a week out, I know, and things can change … but interruptions at the very least look likely at the moment.

Days 2-4 do look dry though and warming up gradually.

There is at least two in that streak they should have won (Hobart in 99, Sydney in 09/10) but somehow managed to lose.

Yes… “Somehow”

You spelt it wrong
“Gilchrist” is the correct spelling.

The Sydney one was a complete farce (hello Kamran Akmal).
The Hobart one they were trying their darnedest but were just outplayed by a terrific partnership by Gilly and Langer.

That’s a funny way to spell “John the bookie”

And an appalling non-decision by the umpire not giving Langer out to a blatant caught behind.

Admittedly, you still would have needed a forklift to get the bugger off the ground if he had been given. Would have DRS’ed it, and then reviewed that as well.

Yeah, he hit the cover off it. Absolutely woeful decision

But it only rains when the Sydney test is on!

The past few weeks have been perfect for test cricket in Sydney. It will be interesting to see if this holds into the new year.

Kayo has an awesome feature on it where Gilly and Mark Waugh watch the Hobart test back making comment. The title of the show is Can’t Bowl Can’t Throw. It’s often forgotten that the Mulller incident was the same test.

Yeah I enjoyed watching that during the week actually. Poor old Joe the Cameraman
And yeah, Langer definitely hit the cover of that one.
They did say that it was actually coming on to the bat nicely as the rest wore on which certainly helped.

In no real surprise Mitch Johnson has been dumped from 2 CA public speaking gigs for his article on Warner and Bailey
