Sri Lanka have humiliated England in this test - that second innings from the Poms was woeful

Sri Lanka - 11 to win with 8 wickets in hand. Bazball getting the hiding it deserves

What happened? Couldn’t they find a fresh ball from the box to turn the game?

Oh Bazball. But anyway it was a dead rubber so it’s all good

You’re all forgetting the “Moral Victory” aspect of it.

That’s the most important!!!

(What would the scoreboard know about that???)

Vaughan could see this happening … though credit to SL, they did bowl very well and batted like they wanted this one.

Oh, and Pope has a bit to learn about reviewing if he’s to be a future skipper. Don’t think he nailed one all series.

Sri Lanka leapfrog England on the WTC standings thanks to that win

Yes but on the moral Bazball rankings England are still number 1.

Poms basically all but eliminated any slim chances of making the WTC Final with that loss.

England’s smug Bazballers got what they deserved. I don’t think there’s been a more arrogant, dislikable team that’s achieved absolutely nothing than this lot…

It wasn’t the most memorable of series this. I only kept a lazy eye on the first two Tests. But this rain affected Oval “end of term” one grew legs. And SL gripped it with both hands so well done to them.
Joe Root in the after Test interviews comes out with, well: “Coldplay can’t be number one every week.”

Whooska … righto Joe.

Pakistan, India and then us coming up in short order.
I think our Oz boys Starc, Hazlewood and Capt Pat might suggest a different kind of music for England by then. Something a bit louder and ballsier.

Hahahaha!!! What a pillock. And I’d expect better from him because he should be one that hasn’t been brainwashed by the Bazball cult, but clearly he has been.

How often did you see Joe Root reverse sweep seamers pre Bazball?

Never?

Correct. I rest my case. He is part of the cult.

To be fair, Root has averaged 57.1 in tests since McCullum took the reigns.

Prior to McCullum he was averaging 49.2 in tests.

I can hardly blame him for buying into it. His personal form has noticeably improved (granted, he was starting from a high baseline).

If anyone actually watched any of the 6 Tests in England over the past 3 months, they would have clearly noticed that Root reverted back to “normal” batting, eliminating the crazy Bazball reverse and ramp shots.

Exactly right. He was going awry when he was playing those reverse scoops over slips and trying to slog, which isn’t his go. Since batting in his normal method, he’s been piling on the runs, and still scoring at a reasonable rate given he plays shots all around the wicket. For all that Bazball has apparently done for the game, it’s not led to any high watermark series victories, nor has it shot them to the top ranked team in the world. They are 6th. Given they typically play more Test cricket than any other nation, it’s ■■■■ poor.

They’d be sitting third of not for points being docked due to slow over rates.

They’ve been docked 19 points!

And they’re not because they don’t care about over rates because they think they’re saving test cricket with the style of cricket that they’re playing.

Bazball has directly cost them a chance at the WTC Final.

The English bowling lineup for the series was not impressive. Looked like a rank shield bowling lineup. Will get smashed to all corners out here by the Aussies

Full credit to Sri Lanka. Outplayed us completely from day 2 onwards

Overall I’m happy with how the summer went. Win 5 out of 6 tests. Found some new talent that will be in the test team for a long time to come in Smith and Atkinson. Glad to see Olly Stone back healthy and bowling.

Plenty to improve on, plenty to like as well
