The Cricket Thread (part 8) - from Jan 2024

Best bowling attack in world cricket look predestrian, ill back them in to hit back hard.

Iā€™m in Ian Chappellā€™s camp on the coaching thing. Other than organising fielding drills etc , I think itā€™s a massively overplayed and overinflated position.

This goes far deeper than McDonald and the like.

India lost a tough Test series, but they were playing Test cricket and have arrived in Test cricket mindsets.

Weā€™ve farked about with half arsed 20/20 and ODI matches to begin the summer , have no clear picture on who has first class form and look miles behind India in preparation. Itā€™s ugly stuff.

I posted a week or two back that only our bowlers could keep us in this series. And they all look a bit underdone.

A valid view, but to develop Test-ready calibre players the Shield needs to be as strong a level of competition as possible. Blooding youngsters at the expense of players proven capable at that level might fast track a few but also widen the gap between what they experience at the First Class level and whatā€™s required in Test cricket.

Its intense moments as @Lawry gets his XI together.

Iā€™m not sure when this developed, but this trend of Australian batters not getting a decent stride into the ball and playing from the crease. Basically playing back to good length deliveries, and they act surprised when they get trapped in front or it decks back and bowls them. How about use your feet?

They probably will mate, but you need a good batting line up too.

If this test had been played at the Gabba do you think the result although not over yet would be differant?

Iā€™m down the south coast and havenā€™t seen a ball of this Test, but youā€™re right, one good session could turn the whole series around. Too early to be panicking.

You donā€™t watch much SS and clearly have zero idea. McSweeney is in form and deserved his chance. He probably shouldnā€™t be opening but itā€™s all we have at present. McSweeney is a far better bat than Inglis. Inglis is a 5 or 6 and McSweeney is a top 4 so completely different but you could argue both should be playing

We wouldā€™ve been saved by the rain if we were at the Gabba

Well I donā€™t! Imagine Bumrah at the Gabba

Clearly have a better knowlege of SS than you that is without doubt. mcsweeney wont play more than half dozen tests. Inglis on the other handā€¦

Different positions so that might be the case.
Inglis wouldnā€™t play more than a couple of tests if he opened in tests either.
There is a good reason Inglis only bats at 6 in the SS

Have a relative that works for SA cricket and did at one stage work for cricket australia but im not 1 to brag so ā€¦
See you edited previous post to not look like a fool

its a culture issue, theres a complete lack of accountability once you get a spot in the 11. warner went basically 3 years of dogshit before finally getting dropped, marnus is on that trajectory.

This really is a bollocking. I thought we might lose tests this summer, maybe even the series, but remarkably after being bowled out for 150, this is developing into a statement win. Spearheaded by their captain, albeit fill in, as well. Heā€™s a heck of a bowler.

Coming into this series the cricketing world basically agreed that Cummins, Bumrah and Rabada were the 3 best quicks in it. Jasprit has certainly laid down an early marker for Pat :flushed:.

Not at all. Iā€™m still involved with the SACA country junior program and have coached one current Australian test player and played with two others but didnā€™t want to brag.

That explain our fall from grace then, too many people with no clue

I have a feeling Iā€™m going to have to hit the alert button shortly.

Yeah that would be it.
Weā€™re pulling our weight. Great junior participation, supplying plenty of kids to Premier cricket and doing our best for a state that is massively underfunded compared to others.
CA has dropped the ball on their pathways but there is plenty of talent out there.
