The Cricket Thread (part 8) - from Jan 2024

This Global Super League series in Guyana must be the oddest tournament ever created.

Victoria are in it and the squad is basically a bunch of players that have never played for Victoria.

Being on stud duty would wear most of us out.

Saw this on twitter, found it interesting

No love for Cow Corner ?

Huh.
Cover and Mid-Wicket are not where I thought they were.

No sign of the Wandering Split, either.

Yep I would have thought what they call Cover Point is Cover and Mid Wicket should be directly opposite that.

I don’t mind if the national selectors say to state teams ā€œyou must play X in the shield this roundā€.

It’s a feeder comp for national selection. If the Australian side is thinking someone might be useful for the test set-up, they need to play Shield.

It’s also going to be exceedingly rare that it happens. So when it does, needs to just be a case of ā€œok, yes we will do thatā€ and not some sort of argument.

Apart from if you take the mentality that ā€˜if you can face him you can cope with everyone else’ I actually fail to see any real purpose at all in doing nets sessions with Bumrah if you are an Indian batsman. It’s very removed from game specific training because you are not going to face anyone like him in a match. The trajectory, the arm motion and run-up etc is substantially different to what you’re actually training to prepare for.

Got my ticket day 1 corporate box ill be smashed by 4.30.

Best way to go I’d think :slightly_smiling_face:
Lets hope the boys put on a good performance for you and us all.

Me too. I’m in corporate hospitality days 1,2 and 3 ……flying across tomorrow

I’m driving across tonight and mixing it with the plebes in the heat. Think of me when you’re wining and dining.

(Will also be smashed by the time we cross the border)

(So excited for first time at the Adelaide Oval).

Sheesh! Howie (who was keeping) impaled by a bail after a Brett Lee ball hit the top of off in a fox promo.

Terribly unlucky but what a story for the kids/grandkids.

He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I rate Howie and reckon he’s the best professional caller we have in this country.

I sure hope Cummins, Boland and Starc are at their absolute best this test and they’re all taking poles pretty regularly because Marnus as the relief/fifth bowler is yuck. I know Marsh has been going ok comparatively with the bat but just personally I’d have backed in Webster if Marsh can’t bowl.

ā€œokay comparativelyā€ in this instance = Ave ~42 over the last year, better than anyone else in the side.

We simply can’t afford to drop him if he’s fit to bat.

Yep which is what I meant when I said ok comparatively. 42 is comparatively better than many others who have been dogsh!t but also not earth shatteringly good either.

If he (Marsh) can only bat, put him at 3 and fark Marnus off.

Webster couldn’t be any worse at the moment, from a total runs scored perspective.

Yeah I’d be cool with that. Addresses the 5th bowler while keeping in Marsh and dropping the guy who has been in the worst form. Not that Marsh is a long term solution at number 3.

Sounds like Marnus is playing though. Last chance saloon.

Does his injury restrict him whilst batting?
