I think it was his first tour here and he was having some issues with his feet. He was recommended to go to where my brother worked and they made him a set of orthotics straight away and he loved them that much that he only wore ones made by them for the remainder of his career. They would ship them over in bulk and he would still visit them and invite the owner and staff into the corporate area whenever he came back
I met the great man Shane Warne a couple of times. Last time was when he was watching his son at a local football game. We were in a group and got chatting. At quarter time he said to the group do you mind if I smoke. Everyone was enjoying his company and all said no problem go ahead Shane. He then proceeded to smoke 4 cigarettes as quick as I’ve seen anyone all during the quarter time break. He literally inhaled them. There was just a puff of grey smoke surrounding the great man.
Many years ago I travelled to Mumbai as a memorabilia dealer had a contract to produce a limited edition series of cricket bats (35 centuries equalling Gavaskar) and Sashin Tendulkar refused to sign anything unless his signature was protected. I was approached due to our system of protecting sporting memorabilia and they wanted me to demonstrate our system. We arrived in Mumbai at midnight and Sashins driver picked us up and delivered us to the Taj Lands End Hotel. He picked us up in the morning and took us to Bollywood when Sashin was filming an Airtel ad. Sashin looked at the demo bat and liked the look of it. As it was his birthday we gave him a book on Formula One car racing as he loves it. Sashin then asked if he could join us for dinner. (I nearly fell over in shock). He came to the hotel with his wife and manager but we had to have a private room and he sat next to me where I explained our protection system and he loved it and agreed to do the bats. What a gentleman he was, quietly spoken and very respectful. In my life as a memorabilia authenticator, this day will remain in my memory forever. Just fantastic. We spoke about cricket, facing fast bowlers and his love for lamb chops :-). (Photo taken at Bollywood - Mumbai)
Not sure this is true. I understand that scores cannot be attributed for the same innings. So he has 35 innings of 100+ and 42 innings of 50-99. A total of 77 innings of scores above 50.
Joe on the other hand has 65 innings between 50-99 and 36 of 100+. A total of 101 innings above 50.
What the stats kind of represent is that in almost every second instance of Smith getting a 50, he goes on with a ton. It’s closer to 1/3 for Root, who is still a very very very good batter
