Atkinson with the hat trick. Last one was a beauty.
We were slow too, but because the Indian innings didnāt last 80 overs, then it wonāt count. India will have to step it up as it appears at this stage, barring a horrible day 2, Australia will make the 80 overs and so slow over rates and WTC point consequences come into play. Given the state of the WTC table, it could matter quite a lot.
Iām hoping we make at least 400, meaning we would bat through tonight and as long as we can tomorrow. We would realistically be looking at a fairly old ball for the night session tomorrow night, but canāt be helped. Weāve been able to get them out with the new ball during the day.
Iād be very, very happy with 300.
I mean obviously Iād love to win by an innings, but 300 isnāt a doddle and should put us in a very good positionā¦time-wise.
We might be out by the first break - who knows? But if someone goes big and we bat through the day and into tomorrow - even the chance for thatāll be thanks to Lab and Mcsweeney last night.
At this point Iām just hoping they both make fifty.
They deserve it.
Marnus looked switched on and ready to go from ball one last night. He looked up for the fight.
Heās had such a lean run of late, itās the sort of form patch which tends to be broken with a monster hundred (like a 170+). Hopefully that is today.
Was out last night and only caught bits and pieces but Iām very encouraged by the grit that Marnus and McSweeney have shown to dig in against quality bowlers in tough conditions under lights.
Hopefully keep it going now and build a really good platform that will put us in a strong position to win the test.
Not sure what the forecast is for today and beyondā¦
But if these two and Smithy grind to somewhere close to 150-175 then our middle order might get stuck in. Head, Marsh and Carey will make hay if theyāre given their freedom. McSweeney very impressive.
Watching the highlights here, an excellent day for our lads. Mitch just gets better like a fine wine. Heās one of our all time great strike bowlers ⦠imao.
Marnus looked energised at the crease again. His Idiocracies can be annoying but I noticed he had lost that from his game, the exaggerated leaves, the loud no runs. He seems like Marnus of old, which is encouraging.
I was at the ground yesterday, incredible viewing and atmosphere. The Adelaide Oval is magnificent, Iām back again today
Australia bowled very well - Starc and Boland incredible
Batting wise - very impressed with MCS and Lab was very good scrapping
I cannot wait for today ā¦go Aussies
I dont think there is anyone better at getting a wicket in his first two overs of a spell.
Nice breeze this morning has pushed the humidity away and itās a cracking day. Not a cloud on the sky and just a gentle breeze.
Bethel out for 96
Which is a bummer. Deserved a ton.
See @Jaymin this is why you canāt pick guys who havenāt made domestic tons. They canāt make tons in International cricket
Just had lunch at Fugazzi - very nice Adelaide restaurant @Aceman ā¦ā¦.coming from Melbourne my standards are high and Mrs Lawry and I very impressed. A great pre cricket spot full of Aussie supportersā¦ā¦.youāre right its sunny and nice breeze absolutely perfect
Just an observationā¦
Victorian pace bowlersā¦OāNeill, Perry, Elliott, Crone, McClure and Bolden (when available)
Why does Siddle still get a game. Iām a great believer in Shield teams being feeders for international duty, and only need a couple of veterans to lead the way.
Vics out for 125, but OāNeill has 2 early wicketsā¦2-1.
Bethell and Duckett both out in the 90s. Bethell has never made a first class ton but batting No. 3. Who do they drop for Smith to come back?
Itāll be interesting if the Vics can wrap these last 4 wickets up for around 35 runs and chase ā150.
Bowlers are clearly dominating the match though so any chase is going to be tough.

The celb-appeal just grinds my gears.
