The Cricket Thread. RIP Phil Hughes

I can think of a sportsman I've ever disliked as much as I dislike David Warner....and not even in that 'love to hate him' way I dislike opposition footballers.....it's more in a ' I am so embarrassed this man represents my country' cringeworthy way.
England would be mad to sack KP. The game needs more KP's IMHO.

So you want more KP's and the one we have is an embarrasment to you?  You cannot have it both ways, you either want the Warner/KP type or you do not.
As for Warner, I encourage you to investigate him more fully and you might learn to appreciate the bloke more.

If certain off field behaviours are true Warner is a very **** bloke.

Almost as bad as what Punter was when he started.  It frustrates me that people want characters and then bag the crap out of them when they behave accordingly.  He really likes KP but doesn't like Warner and yet both behave exactly the same.

At his best Johnson is better than Steyn.

If you think that is so, then you haven't watched enough of him. Steyn at his best is eons ahead of Johnson at his best. Wonderful and consistent bowler that would have dominated in previous eras too.

At his best Johnson is the best quick in the world. At his best. Don't get me wrong I think Steyn is a sensational bowler I however think his best is not as good as Johnson's. His worst also happens to be a million times better than Johnson's worst.

That may be the biggest bit of bullshit I've ever read on here.

Agree. Warner is a good batsman but he is delusional if he thinks that SA are on the back foot. His technique isn't as good as he thinks it is and Vilander and Steyn will sort him out real quick.

Our bowlers are good, maybe (at a stretch) as good as SA, but their batsmen **** all over ours. Last time they were here AB devilliers and de Plessis batted out a whole day (almost) to save a test (which they did). Apart from Rogers, could any of our batsmen bat out even a session to save a test?

I remember the first time Steyn sorted Warner out. Warner plastered him to all parts of the ground.
Warner might be a genuine farkwit but he is a very good Test Opener. Something I never thought he would be.
At his best Johnson is better than Steyn. Hell at his best Johnson is the best quick in world cricket
Harris is every bit as good if not better than Philander
Siddle is better than Morkel
Our fast bowling unit I rate higher than theirs and theirs is ■■■■■■ good.
Batsman on the other hand.....
Whilst I don't think we will beat them we are a chance. South Africa proved again recently and have a long history of being afraid to win we on the other hand play only to.

4, 119, 41, 13, 29.

Decent figures, hardly plastering them all over the ground except the Adelaide knock.

I can't see that they are the same at all.

Does anyone think the one day series against england will be interesting? or will it be a whitewash as they have mentally left Australia already.

Different group and ODI's have limited overs for the bowlers, so I doubt it will be a whitewash.  In an ODI you can smash them in one game then lose the next, just look at the recent series between NZ & WI.

Does anyone think the one day series against england will be interesting? or will it be a whitewash as they have mentally left Australia already.

Might be ok, not sure many of us will care though.

How will the bowlers be managed? They said Johnson won't be playing this week, what about Harris and Siddle? Are they even in the squad? With no FC cricket on at all until we head to SA, they might end up being short of a gallop, even though they played 5 tests straight in about 7 weeks.

Johnson should not be playing for another week, give him a full two weeks off.

That is a the fallacy of this time of year being an exclusive BBL period in domestic cricket. Look at Chris Rogers for instance. Tests now over, not in the ODI team, and not signed to any BBL franchise. The only cricket available for him is playing for his club side in Melbourne district cricket, or playing in the Vic 2nd XI. That is not ideal preparation for a series against Steyn, Morkel and Philander is it? He will probably spend hours on a bowling machine or getting throwdowns in the nets, but that is no substitute for time in the middle. We only have one tour match in Sth Africa before the Test start too, so he is likely to have a month of no FC cricket under his belt.

Can't remember Sids playing an ODI for years. Doubt they'd be silly enough to include Ryno either.

That's what I was thinking. So what Smooth has said is even worse for us, it means our most in form batsman and 2 of our bowlers will have had no cricket for a month by the time the play in SA.

Didn't you know cricket only started existing with the ashes series just gone.

I think that at his best, Johnson is a far more lethal, scary and downright devastating bowler than Steyn, whom I regard as the best bowler in the world.

Mitch would have to keep it going for at least another year to 18 months though.

Steyn's been a little down recently.

steyn doesn't get the same bounce or late swing.

tend to agree with nicky and AN but Johnson has to keep it up for a while yet.

I think he is the most devasting, but Steyn is still the best in the world. You get to best in the world for consistency as well as wickets, avg, SR etc.

Comparing Johnson and Styen is like trying to compare Johnson and McGrath.  No one would argue that Johnson is better than McGrath was.  Steyn is far more like McGrath than Johnson.

Steyn head and shoulders. Top bowler (as far as I’m concerned) for a good 4 years or so.

Johnson vs Philander, maybe. Not even convinced Johnson is our best bowler, Harris’ series was pretty ■■■■■■ good.

Prior and Broad talked a man down from jumping off a bridge in Sydney. I'm assuming it was Alastair Cook.

Ha, it was probably the only thing Prior has been able to hold onto while he was here.

Courier Mail shattered it wasn't Stuart Broad himself.

I really don't know how Australia will go against South Africa.

I do know that South Africa have Never dominated Australia (in the modern era, Bill might have something to say about prior to that).

In fact, in their reign at the top South Africa have played four series against Australia and lost three.

I'm not pessimistic.
