The Cricket Thread. RIP Phil Hughes

LOLZ ‘Swoon’

I doubt they are the first poms to be terrified of a rampaging Aussie johnson.

Those girls in Warnie's hotel room a decade or two back were probably terrified.

Can we just tell England to nick off home, and play the Stars against Australia instead?

Can we just tell England to nick off home, and play the Stars against Australia instead?

The Stars shall be known as the Figjam XI from now on, if there was a list of wankers playing in the BBL a fair majority would play for the Stars, some very punchable heads in that lineup, they just need to recruit KP and Dan Christian and hire Buckley as a coach and the transformation would be complete

Made the Strikers look like a pub team. Stars will walk BBL03 in...

I hate the Strikers and TBH not a fan of T20 but on paper they look to have a side that would push several international sides. Doesnt mean they are not a bunch of self indulgent ■■■■■ who drink their their own bath water though

Does anyone think the one day series against england will be interesting? or will it be a whitewash as they have mentally left Australia already.

Might be ok, not sure many of us will care though.

How will the bowlers be managed? They said Johnson won't be playing this week, what about Harris and Siddle? Are they even in the squad? With no FC cricket on at all until we head to SA, they might end up being short of a gallop, even though they played 5 tests straight in about 7 weeks.

Johnson should not be playing for another week, give him a full two weeks off.

That is a the fallacy of this time of year being an exclusive BBL period in domestic cricket. Look at Chris Rogers for instance. Tests now over, not in the ODI team, and not signed to any BBL franchise. The only cricket available for him is playing for his club side in Melbourne district cricket, or playing in the Vic 2nd XI. That is not ideal preparation for a series against Steyn, Morkel and Philander is it? He will probably spend hours on a bowling machine or getting throwdowns in the nets, but that is no substitute for time in the middle. We only have one tour match in Sth Africa before the Test start too, so he is likely to have a month of no FC cricket under his belt.

I am unsure that Rogers having 3 or 4 weeks off from playing  competitive cricket is a disadvantage There are always complaints about preparation/scheduling - Lots of moaning before the Ashes series about England having a better preparation, I think its good that some of the players are having a break.

I think that at his best, Johnson is a far more lethal, scary and downright devastating bowler than Steyn, whom I regard as the best bowler in the world.

Mitch would have to keep it going for at least another year to 18 months though.

Steyn's been a little down recently.

Glad you noticed that Steyn has been a bit down on form. As soon as i posted this, Steyn got nine wickets against India. I must be the 'kiss of life'.

Stars are a strong team if Clinton Mckay is struggling to get a game. Think McKay is Australia's reigning ODI player.

Not sure that was the case this year. We got 2-3 FC matches before the tests. Certainly in the past that has been the case where there have been no FC matches before the GABBA test.

Rogers having 1-2 weeks off is fine but by the time we get to SA he would have had 5 or so weeks off. I believe he is playing for SA in the futures league while the BB is on.

You really do not like self-confident people do you?

McKay has a trick...to bowl slower-paced bouncers and lots of slower balls...he's not a great bowler per se, he just has tricks, and those tricks have been worked out.

He needs to find new tricks.

Differance between self-confident and flog.
Dave Hussey, Cam White, Bird and Malinga for example all ooze self confidence but go about it in a good way. Hodge, Wade and Hastings are just ■■■■■ but worst is Glenn "No Show" Maxwell for someone who is the worst cricketer to wear a test cap he seems to get caught up in his own self importance

Hodge and Wade I agree with, not really sure on Hastings and Maxwell though.

Yes Maxwell is a ■■■■ FC/test cricketer and will most likely never make it but haven't really seen him do any flog-worthy things on the field. He is a great fielder and a decent slogger when he actually tries to play real cricket shots and not try and flay every delivery.

Which ■■■■■■■■ is responsible for coining the nickname "Big Show" for Maxwell?

Have a feeling it was that peanut Brayshaw
The love from the commentators for Maxwell is cringeworthy, they were praising him last night for dominating the attack. All I saw was a good cover drive, 3-4 hits off the toe of the bat and a top edge 6 that even he had no idea where it went. Luke Wright on the other hand played some cracking proper cricket shots

He is also known as the "Million Dollar Man"

I know for a fact through someone I know from Fitzroy-Doncaster that Maxwell came up with that "Big Show" nickname himself. Whilst I don't agree with Aceman's insinuation that the whole Stars squad are big-headed and "drink their own bath water", in Maxwell's case I think it is true. I know he didn't endear himself to anyone at Hampshire when he played some 2nd XI cricket there before he shot to prominence...

on the contrary, i hear he's a ripping bloke. i know he does a lot of clinics with junior cricketers off his own back. there's always differing opinions on personalities i guess!

Some folks just don't like self-confident people. And there are always people prepared to bring them down a peg or two, even if it means making up rumours.

And I'm not pointing fingers here. It's just a general observation.
