There's no doubting Marsh's talent. But eight First Class 100s in 14 First Class seasons suggests he's never going to fullfill it. Hughes has 24 100s from seven seasons.
Seven? He's had seven summers here... surely at least 4-5 in England?
Should have said seven years of First Class cricket.

The problem is, no amount of runs in FC can ever guarantee a position in the National team. Never has with many who have missed out over the years.
This is what the Argus report had to say about selection:
It is critical that superior performance is rewarded at all levels. Players must earn their positions in the time-honoured way of making runs, taking wickets and showing that they are ready to play at the next level.
It seems that has been quickly forgotten. Marsh is obviously a favourite of Lehmann's. Boof coached him in the IPL, where Marsh has been a success. The funny thing about Marsh is that his ODI, domestic one-dayer and T20 averages are superior to his First Class average.
I think Marsh is more a favourite of Inverarity than Boof, I have little doubt Inverarity would of been the main barrow pusher for Marsh's inclusion
What makes you say that?
Marsh even thanked Lehmann when he was named to tour RSA, saying that he has backed him in since being named Australian coach.

Marsh was juuuust as unworthy when he got picked the first time, well before Boof.

Just get the impression its still the old boys club and Inverarity and the Marsh's go back a long way. No doubt Boof had a say but id be interested to see if it went to vote and who/how many people get a vote
The theme in this thread is that bad selections are attributed to Inverarity, and good selections are attributed to Boof.
Only since they took the vote off Clarke, and got rid of Arthur. We all know both of them were responsible for the worst of it.
Over howver many years, you always get the feeling Inverarity has a long list, and he likes to tinker, and his favourite trick is "drop batsman/batting all-rounder, select bowling all-rounder".
Given how rarely they've been given a decent crack, it's hard to attribute that to the captain or coach.
Handy runs by Calum MacLeod for Scotland today. He didn't lose his head making 175 off 141 against Canada. Surely an immortal?
Kenya manage to sneak through by flogging the Dutch. I wonder if Tom Cooper regrets not offering his services up, although I think he may be injured at the moment. This result has big implications as it means that PNG go into the Super 6 stage as the only side with 4 points.

And the back end of Inver's career would have dovetailed with the beginning of Geoff Marsh's career.

It's the Geoff Marsh connection. He got to many tests. Was a one time Aussie coach. It's like Phillipine politics. Only four familes ever get to be President.

This second string bowling attack and fielding side is not up to it against the Poms atm. At the way it is playing out (dropped catches, poor bowling, general drop in quality across the board) England should romp this one in.
