Had a ā€˜Smithy muster’ today on a farm in Oatlands’. Smithfields and collies galore. Took our 2 and they had a ball. Now gotta clean heap of horse poo off the back seats of the dualcab.

It really, really s*cks that these beautiful loyal companions are only with us for 10-16 years, and sometimes less than that.

It’s the reason why I don’t have a dog of my own.
Not sure I could cope with the sense of loss when that dreaded day finally comes.

Feel for all the Blitzers dealing with the loss of 4 legged friends lately, and those stressing with pet ailments.

Sounds great! Any photos?
Had to laugh at the horse poo reference- we had both horses & dogs… nothing like a snack of fresh warm manure . Good friends had a border collie & the first thing she did when they arrived was run into the paddock & roll in it.

Thank you to all who’ve reached out, here or via PM.
You’re a good bunch.

Hard to say goodbye to such a good mate. Even harder to see her with no more hope in her eyes, and no more wags to wag.

My girl did this once while we were on a walk through the bush (off lead), came back and was bouncing around happily like she was wearing Chanel No.5.

Worst part was it was a 3 kms walk back home with me try not to breathe in much.

Years ago I was coming through a country town and a herd of cattle had just been moved from one paddock to another. I thought one of the dogs had been hit by a car as it was dragging its leg and looked like something was hanging out of the poor thing. I pulled over and found it had an old rusty rabbit trap sprung on its leg. I was trying to get it off and calm the dog down when one of the farmers came back looking for his dog. He thanked me, removed the trap and off they went.
I just stood there covered in cow pooh with at least a 2 hour drive in front of me.

Poor dog. Such barbaric things.
Good on you for helping.

So heart breaking.
Thought are with you and the family.

Rocky finally had his stitches out yesterday. Everything has heeled up and he is now back to normal apart from a new thing that he may need surgery on. We are pretty sure he didn’t have kennel cough after his surgery. We have noticed in the last few months that Rocky has been coughing/ gagging sometimes when he is eating and drinking. Also when we take him to the dog park and he starts getting tired his breathing is really noisey until he cools down. The Vet seems to think it has to do with his Soft Palate which is in the back part of his mouth. We need to take him in for an examination and x-rays in a few weeks to find out for sure. I think they can do surgery to remove some of the soft palate which will fix it up for him. I think it is just restricting his airways a little and iratating his throat. Will see how it goes. Anyway we are not going to stress over it too much and hopefully they will fix it all up for him. Apart from that he is back going for his walk and being as cheeky as ever.
I found him like this today on the couch. I don’t know how he got under the blanket like that but a good effort on his partšŸ˜†

Probably not relevant, but when my very old cat had trouble swallowing and gagged or chucked on food ( furball ruled out) , after I gave her human quality raw kangaroo steak chopped ( not minced) she would spend a lot of time chewing and got her saliva juices going, no more chucking. . Same result with other strong flavoured game meat ( wild rabbit supplies permitting)

Thanks @Tezzalenco for the update. It’s so good to hear that he’s doing and looking so well! That’s a great photo- very impressed with his bed making skills.
Hopefully the soft palate issue can be resolved simply and easily. Onward and forward now with years of joy and adventure together.

100% @loyalandproud . He is ready for anything now. Next step is obedience training to learn some manners . We have to get him to stop trying to jump up and hug and kiss everyone he meets. The vet visits have been interesting, he gets so excited and is trying to lick the vet while they are examining him while I’m holding him down. He did his puppy pre school training there so loves going there. Thanks mate.
