The dreaded grey jumper

As soon as we walked out last week in that “roadkill” alternate red strip, I knew we weren’t going to win.

Does anyone remember if we ever actually won a game in the dreaded grey jumper?

I have this sneaking suspicion that we have somewhere around 90-100% loss rate in the alternate jumpers

I didn’t mind the grey jumper. I realise this makes me a pillock.

As a neo-visual artistic statement on the suffering of Essendon supporters and the “endless grey” of their plight, I also don’t mind it.

But did we ever win any games in it?

Nay to the grey. Well the double red stripe one anyway. Some of the previous ones have been ok but when they ran out in the double red stripe made me think a spanking is on the cards. Bingo.

Everything looks better when your winning, in saying that we are still yet to come up with a decent away strip imo.
The Grey jumper looked better in person than on TV.

I like the grey jumper. Brings back memories of 2014… Which were comparatively good times

We don’t deserve to ever have success ever again, because of that grey jumper.

It was atrocious, and a blight on this club’s history.

Fat sash looks stoopid.

Grey like our future.

Oh, I don’t know… I’d have thought the grey jumper was perfectly in keeping with all of Essendon’s decision-making over the past 20 years…

“So our club colours are Red and Black.”

“Ok, so how about a predominately grey jumper?”

“Sounds perfect!”

After some googling, as near as I can figure our record in grey from 2012-2015 was 5 wins, 6 losses.
vs port 2-0
vs richmond 1-3
vs saints 2-1
vs fremantle 0-1

Across that time period, our overall record was 43-45-1

So in grey 45% win rate, overall 48%.

Yep.
Sounds like Essendon.

That later addidas one, straight red sash, black trim, slightly darker red outside, with player names iirc, was the best one imo. Think it was the Tim Watson heritage one on the inside.

Best alternate strip
  • fat sash red shorts
  • Grey jumper
  • Red Jumper with thin Black outline on red
  • Red Jumper with thicker black outline on red (current)
  • Inverse Red Jumper with Black Sash

Wore it 10 times over a 4 season period for a 5-5 record…

Wins:
Round 16 2012 vs Port Adelaide (127-77)
Round 4 2013 vs St Kilda (128-91)
Round 9 2013 vs Richmond (91-62)
Round 16 2014 vs Port Adelaide (62-60)
Round 5 2015 vs St Kilda (82-80)

Hardly awful.

We also played against fremantle in it once in round 6 2015, which we lost.

Unpopular opinion but I really HATE when we bastardize the sash. To me, our home / non-clash jumper should be sacrosanct. Let’s get with the times and create a totally different clash strip. Always liked the idea of a prominent bomber logo across the front of a silver or grey jumper.
