6 goals to Logan in the absence of the captain.
Singles to James Leonard and Jordan Kiinburgh.
TOP OF THE LADDER, again.
By Blake Gaffiero
Essendon pipped St Kilda to the post on Sunday in a close VWFL clash, prevailing by 12 points.
The 8.8 (56) to 6.8 (44) result came down to the wire, after nothing had separated the two sides going into the final change.
Caleb Logan starred for the Dons in the absence of Sam Maraldo to illness, providing a typically healthy forward option after half-time.
Brian Owens and Scott van Gemert were solid contributors, particularly in the second half as the Bombers began to break the game open.
In a nice moment, Jordan Kinniburgh scored his first goal in Essendon colours and provided welcome assistance for Logan up front.
The VWFL Community side suffered a difficult loss to the Saints in their corresponding fixture.
Both teams will host their first marquee matches of the season against Hawthorn at the NEC Hangar on Saturday, July 1, with the Community team opening proceedings at 10am.
We won one on the weekend. Wheels on fire
This week’s game for top spot on the ladder has been shifted to Friday night (8pm at The Hangar). It had been scheduled for Saturday at the same time as the VFLW, which was silly because:
Venue: Windy Hill – Essendon vs Western Bulldogs (VFLW) and Essendon vs Gold Coast Suns (VFL)
Date: Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2A wheelchair football ‘come and try’ activation will be held at this weekend’s matches at Windy Hill. Spectators attending both matches are invited to participate in the activation and experience what it takes to play wheelchair football.
Not sure if lost, or tasteless post.
Sorry, wrong thread!
I don’t mean to be distasteful, but do you need to be wheelchair bound to play wheelchair footy, or can anyone play?
From my limited understanding, you can’t be an able-bodied person. You must either be in a chair or have a disability that limits your movements, potentially requiring a chair.
Note that (same as wheelchair rugby) I believe there are grades of disabled and you have to meet a point level across your team.
That can mean a few players steal all the goals and focus.
The captain is back in. May he and Logan go on a goal-kicking spree, to further lock in top spot on the ladder.
No livestream?
But the reserves (“community”) team are leading the Hawks 20-2 (at half-time).
Which is needed, because it would get us off the bottom of the ladder, and put them down to it.
P.S. Ignore the bit where we’ve played one more game than them…
20-6
Hawks will run out of time with that approach to the game.
Percentage booster!
Since I belatedly tuned in to the live score, it’s gone from 14-19 to 14-51.
Must be bloody windy inside The Hangar in this second quarter.
We eventually woke up, but lost 9.7.61 - 15.10.100
While no one was paying attention, another Essendon team made finals.
