Yeah across all settings. Even if I run the vinyl level to zero in distortion mode (essentially just a nice verb) it’s still an audible jump. Mix ■■■■ at zero (no effect) audible boost.
Yeah the problem here becomes getting the power amp sim on the balanced out. I could get a passive splitter and run a line to the front end of the amp or even run the Laney in slave mode with the IR-X as the preamp. It’s just more cable management to deal with.
Yeah this was my last resort option because of the extra cable runs, but the Laney’s got a volume on the fx loop. Often people just jump the fx loop as an extra boost, but I’ve got more than enough gain on tap already.
What sorta laney? I like their 20watt heads
The GH100L. It’s essentially a jcm800 with an extra gain stage. And you’ll find them pretty easily for less than half the price. Mine set me back $400 and a couple of cases of beer (during lockdowns so beer was premium currency and I was getting it for free).
Have you tossed up running an frfr? Keep the laney for fun stuff.
The laney 2x12 frfr is amazing
Funnily enough, Laney have got these powered 2600watt 4x12’s out now that I was thinking about. Probably not the FRFR solution you’re thinking of ![]()
Apparently you drop IR’s of whatever cab you want into the thing and it models that cab.
There’s some bands touring with them now that are raving about them.
I’ve got fairly good options for lower volume/no volume with the Hiwatt combo that I can run at half (20watts) or headphones directly out of the IR-X. I can even run the IR-X into my Focusrite box and play inside the box in Reaper/Logic/Garageband.
They are frfr. Grab one . If i could lift one I would
Bomber? Check. Guitars? Check.

Fender benders from the dropping of guitars from the stratosphere?
Which tuning? Square neck? Ive just bought a 1931 square neck dobro
Just beautiful
Hey Doggatron, what’s your favourite fuzz? Am on the lookout for another one. Have an M&M London Fuzz (germanium fuzz face), ZVex Fuzz Factory (crazy fuzz based on fuzz face) and Scarab Deluxe (loosely baaed on a tone bender). Any suggestions to check out?
Fave is probably this…
Silicon and germanium. Its the same guts that’s in my favourite pedal of all time. The Foxrox Captain Coconut…
Honourable mention to this…Silicon type. Chase tone Fuzz Fella
And one more, but don’t laugh…
The Dunlop Hendrix Silicon Fuzz (big one) is cheap, available everywhere and as good a Fuzz pedal as I’ve ever played. Cleans up sensationally. Nice and quiet. Classic looks. Sounds amazing. What more could you want. Do not discount it….
It’s a standard neck.
I used to play it in open D but recently had to do a gig in open G. Only had about 6 weeks to get my head around it but it’s now my favourite tuning. (It’s also one of the few keys I can sing in).
I bought the strings for the gig but was too afraid of snaping the neck and/or constantly going out of tune, so I played the gig with grimey old 13’s.
Those Captain Coconuts look so cool. Is the fuzz a fuzz face?
Awesome looking guitar! Are you playing slide with that?
Yep. I believe it has both germanium and silicon in it. The grit nob dials in how much you want of either. I think there’s a few of that type around now, but my understanding is Dave Fox who makes them somewhat pioneered the concept. His pedals are absolutely built like tanks too. Extremely sturdy hardware.
