Damn, that’s fresh.

Whenever i travel to Australia my partner demands we must have pizza, fish n chips and a meat pie. When we visited in March, I was staggered at how expensive Fish N Chips is to purchase, while a pizza and a pie are still reasonably priced.

Sadly prices have gone up crazy. Cant get $2 worth of chips now and even the minimum looks smaller than it ever has.

Last time we got them for the kids, the nuggets and chip pack ($17), the chips barely fed both of them. Oldest (11yrs) ended up eating what the youngest (8yrs) didn’t on top of his own.

I’m ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  myself when the third starts being old enough for chips and nuggets. Prices will be like $20

I have a place which sells me takeaway pizza for 15 bucks but it’s a rare gem.

Pizzas outside dominoes have gone ā€œbougieā€ min 25 a pizza. I find that expensive.

Getting fresh fish n chips can be expensive.

There’s one here in Sunbury where you can get a couples pack for $27. That’s the cheapest I’ve found and the quality is still pretty good

My mum was in aged care in Preston. I I’d take her fish chips and salad - a favourite for her.
Fish on High did a piece of flake that we’d share ($11.90), small chips (6.90) and a Greek salad ($9.90). The chip quantity was fine - plenty for two people unless you are a glutton - we’d often not eat them all. For bigger appetites you’d get a piece of fish each. We would do that for < $30 for two people, good quality.
It’d be about $40 for two with a whole bit of flake each and shared salad and chips.
Pretty reasonable for what you get- especially when you plate it out - it’s not skimpy.
If you compare it to a meat pie it’s expensive. If you treat it like a full meal you might get in a pub it’s cheap.
I prefer catching my own fish and making from scratch though!

I feel like ā€œminimum chipsā€ used to go up about 50 cents a year, then a dollar. I think it might be 7 bucks now at the place nearest me.

Flatties are the best

Boat or land?

Tinny. In summer the bigger ones come in closer. Not that close though this year. Last year I got a 53 cm one in the kayak quite close in - maybe 50 m from shore in 5 m depth. But these ones were about 400 m off. And in 25-30 ft depth.

Does any shop make their own chips anymore, it’s all packet chips & they are awful & way overpriced.

Delicious fish and chips down at Safety Beach from Peninsula Fresh Seafood. Right on the water. Plastic tables and chairs set up just off the sand. Fish, tacos, oysters, mussels, fresh prawns, chowder, seafood burgers. Delicious. Highly recommend.

That’s awesome but how come we only got a photo of a can of coke and a bottle of water in the shot :skull:?

Don’t you feel like chips should come down in price when potatoes do like other veggies.(and the price of fish per kilo in the shop too?)

My local just seems to give out more chips though. Which is nice.

But sometimes I don’t want half a kilo of chips with my one piece of flake or basa

Sotos at Semaphore still do. Often see the old lady peeling and slicing them.
