The mental health thread

Cheers thanks @BomberAbroad @Darli

Honestly I wouldn’t feel comfortable taking money off people and putting my bank details out there.

I have $40 saved up for a board and pads so have another $140 to go

There’s lots of other ways without you having to disclose personal details. Give us a yell if you change your mind.

Good luck with the saving and look forward to see the pictures of you enjoying your new toy.

Dad got to come home today. Yesterday’s keyhole showed the cancer is all localised. Now we begin the fight.

Skateboarding.

It’s the best sport in the world.

I don’t skate anymore, but I still consider myself a skater.

@SillyBilly if you change your mind, let us blitzers know.

Cheers mate. Missus and I had a bit of argument. Mostly she thinks it’s a waste of money even saving up for it. Being 35 and overweight she thinks its a joke.

Suggest that she go on a diet ?

Telling her blitz is fully supportive of the skateboard is probably not going to help make the case.

Just tell her it could be worse, you could be into triathlon/ mountain biking even running as hobbies would be a lot more expensive

it might though, it could make her see that a random bunch of stangers are and have offered more support seemingly to someone on the internet then them, about someone simply trying to do something that would and could improve their mental health.

the way i said it or pointed it out obviously sounds ■■■■ ish but it wasn’t meant as such. it just seems of all the ■■■■■■ things that a husband could be off doing , wanting to get back into a childhood passion that brought some form of happiness, should be so far down the list of things to get in an argument over.
but such is life i guess.

sillybilly its time you used the ‘a mate said skateboarding in your 30s is fine’ and if shes asks whos the mate just say some random name of someone from work, then keep lying and finf yourself down the rabbit hole, or just say an online community youre involved with has a few people doing it and its a great way to get active and lose weight.

Or tell her that it’s your hobby and not hers and you dont need her approval to enjoy it.

On the other hand, you might need approval to spend family funds. Not everybody is in the same boat.

@SillyBilly do you have kids, who might be interested in skateboarding??

Maybe use that angle??

I’m 57 and rejoined skating at 40 after 25 years off. Lost a fair bit of weight as a result and made a new group of friends. I’ve got tons of good quality gear no longer being used, I’m more of a longboarder now.

I recommend you buy a good quality pro deck for around $100 rather than the cheap complete you are considering. I can give you lightly used good pro quality trucks, wheels, bearings etc to complete your build. It would make a much better ride that would perform better and last longer. No charge.

If you are in Melbourne come on over and I’ll help set you up. It’s no imposition at all, I’ve helped heaps of older guys get back into skating and I love the joy they get from it. You’re a spring chicken compared to us 70s skater generation. Alternatively if you want a loan of a board or two while you save up I’m happy to help.

send me a PM if you are interested. hambo (formerly hamboskate)

Caveat must skate with hambo at least 3 times a year.

Haha. I rarely skate with others, have always been a bit of a lone skater. Like my own headspace but I do get together with mates a few times a year for some slalom racing.

You’re so nice
