Been trying to think of the Simple Minds album. Was it Sparkle In The Rain or was that earlier, like '83?
I'm stumped on this. I thought after Sparkle they had Don't You Forget About Me as their big single (non-album/Breakfast Club comp) in '85 and then after stardom put out the next album (the name of which escapes me) around '86?

What else was there that could be number one in '84? A live album??

He only wrote one No 1 hit for them, which was his first, “I’m a Believer” - unless you include other vague charts or outside his own country the US, then little bit of me, little bit of you was a No 1 for the monkees from him, and would be his 2nd as a writer.

But that surely isn’t a “drunk” song AFAIK.

Righto. For the Simply Red album I’ll run with A New Flame. Thought Men & Women before it had gone #1 too, but that was earlier than 1989.
And if Nesmith wasn’t the first Monkee to bail, then it must’ve been Peter Tork - the other two were there throughout (well at least until Davy Jones left this mortal coil a few years back…)
