Righto. For the Simply Red album I'll run with A New Flame. Thought Men & Women before it had gone #1 too, but that was earlier than 1989. And if Nesmith wasn't the first Monkee to bail, then it must've been Peter Tork - the other two were there throughout (well at least until Davy Jones left this mortal coil a few years back.....)
