Follow up question should be “Do you have a kick in strategy that differs from what we’ve done for the last 20 years?!?”
The argument that you need coaches/players from successful environments to improve a struggling team is overblown. EFC had so many coaches in the team from successful teams in the last 15 years which has not worked. Then you have assistants from premiership teams who obtain head coaching roles where history will show that over 50% fail miserably in their new position.
Here is a very well informed little birds sliding doors:
If dismantled ((dimma))this was an auto correct mistake however it is largely apt at this point) was selected coach over matty knights
Then it wasn’t because he remembered his laptop…. It was because of ONE particular answer to one particular question.
“How would you treat the indigenous boys coming through”?
Instead of answering “ I treat all my boys the same, the ALL have every opportunity of success”……
I just really don’t know what they wanted… but his honest answer is what lost him the gig…. Not the forgotten laprop

To be fair, I think their hand passing has been vey good the last couple of weeks. Last week, chains of rapid fire hand passes all hit targets, and we didn’t overuse them hand balling in circles, we moved it in a positive way to avoid the opposition and get the ball out moving forward. I think it’s the best I’ve seen our team execute this to date.
Of course, there are other gaping holes in our team play, but it was nice to see our hand balling on point, and for once, we started off playing man on man instead of guarding grass.
Just think In about 6 hours Jaymie Graham will be told he’s the new Essendon coach.
Can only hope.
The argument we can’t pick a coach with previous senior experience because the majority of premiership winners of late are first time coaches ignores we are last on the ladder and a long long way from premiership contention.
We need experience around in some form as these next 2-3 years are critical. I hope we add an experienced coaching director.
Hird or Graham for me. Hopefully Hird

Do we get a decision today?
I think they’ll have a pretty good idea by tonight. Maybe not a decision

by the end of the day they’ll know who they want by vibes.
then they’ll double-check all the data and info and references and compare notes and see if vibes and reality match.
This is how they need to introduce him to the crowd at next year’s family day event.
I hope they announce the new coach with a quirky instagram post with Harry Jones featuring prominently.
The panel (ie Andrew welsh) might know who they want after interviews conclude today but no way there is any announcement. They’ll need to convene a board process to ratify the decision and can’t see that happening before next week. And that’s assuming that there are no follows ups, which there could be if it’s right.
I think the Board will meet on Sunday to review the recommendation from the Panel.
If everyone is on the same page, then a decision will be made then. Welsh would ring the candidate that night and, given they already know the pay & contract terms each candidate wants, that would be finalised Monday with an announcement next Tuesday - mind you, I expect something to leak, and the Internet to go nuts, Monday night.
If Hird does get the job, has he said how he’s going to balance that commitment with his business interests?
