I suspect that’s a forum wide question/s, but if you’re asking me, it’s the last line (in your reply).
Interesting quirk with Freo is that they are the fifth youngest list in the comp. They have years ahead of them to become a real force in the competition
Agreed your not going to dent your chances at the next senior coaching job by coming to us if they miss out.
Kinda seems like a strange argument that a guy who won a flag isnt deemed a successful coach or the guy who won finals isn’t a successful coach but the guy who didn’t win finals is?
This. The near bordering on obsession regarding the appointment of senior coach now and even going back as far as since we sacked Sheeds has been a huge contributing factor to our demise.
This job is so much bigger than one man and the board/ executive will hopefully be investing just as much effort to putting a quality team of assistants around them.
The guy who won the most finals for us, the guy who won four Premierships for us, thinks Hird is the best option. So do I.
That guy also used Essendon losing as a stunt to promote a ride share business on the weekend.
He was also the guy that gave the keys to the club to Adrian dodoro so not sure he is the best judge of character.
In this podcast Matthew drain mentioned it was he who hired Adrian duduro

Amazing from Freo that in last nights game they had something like 6 off the rookie and 3 players taken 60+ in the draft.
They have found a real good mix of role players
Why do you hate Hird?
Given how on the nose the club is , not only is it almost impossible to attract the best players via trade/ Free agency( not unusual for a bottom team) but equally damaging is the inability to attract top level support staff( development, assistants and admin etc. with that being the case , I guess I’m thinking what’s more likely A - Hird/ Longmire putting together a football department that they bring with them as a package that is full of sort after people, or B- CEO / board are able recruit highly sort after support staff. Now, if the board has any connection to reality they will be relieved with the Plan A . The only reason for going with plan B- would be a maintain a level control/ power or if they chose a first time coach who probably won’t have the gravitas to put together such a support crew. That said, can’t see this club choosing a first time coach .
Before that, Rutten was defence coach at Richmond who significantly helped win the 2017 preirmership and set them up for their other cups.
So we have tried that option as well.
The only option we haven’t taken I think is hired a previous Essendon coach again.
So Hird it is!
Interesting take, rates winning finals highly but then totally discounts the finals wins it takes to get to the grand final, and appears to rule him out on the basis of the 4 Grand final losses and not include the Grand final win he had. Think its called mental gymnastics.
For facts, even with the 4 grand finals losses, Longmire has the coached 15th most finals wins of all time and third most finals wins as a coach since the turn of the century (last 25 years). He has a 50% win ratio in finals (28 Games - 14 wins and 14 losses).
Using finals as a metric to measure a coach, I don’t think you can rule out John Longmire and then next point anoint Jimmy despite his coaching finals record being 0 wins and one loss and his overall coaching win ratio (49.40) being less than John Longmires in finals win ratio (50 % win ratio).
You are seriously giving Nino a run for his money at this point…
That’s good recruiting and development and adherence to the game plan.
Something we could only dream of
Arguably we rehired Hird in 2015 so it’s been done.
What I said is take an assistant from a good club straight into head coach no Essendon taint prior to coming on as coach.
At the start of this I thought if Longmire gets the job I think even the most hardened Hird fans would see that as great appointment.
But then you see stuff like that and it shows how crazy they are
I’ve said this for years I literally couldn’t sit in team meetings and take in anything someone that boring is saying. He is the Andrew Dillon of coaching.
You two must be the most naive pundits of all time ! Why does a coach have to inspire /entertain/care about anyone outside of their football club and as long as they get the job done they can be as boring as batshit !
