The Pro Cycling Thread (Part 1)

Froome had about 3 tdf sewn up in the first week.

Froome also had his team riding tempo, so other competitors found it difficult to attack.
pogacar done this basically solo.

True, but it looked much less impressive with the skybots crushing everyone compared to Pogacar’s relatively weak team.

I’ve seen froome on multiple occasions attack without the support if his team and win stages.

Contador done it a few times without a team mate in sight

Have also seen Froome run up Mt Ventoux without a bike!

That was one of the craziest stages I’ve ever seen.

Best ive ever done is averages 245 for an hour weighing in at a svelt 94kg at a massive 2.7watts per kg…thats 5 nearly 5 watts per kg and then 6’5 for 21 minutes …not to mention the average grade on the clinbs was close to 8%

cant wait to ventoux to see how many minutes im behind lol

I don’t know what any of this means, but it sounds impressive. I think I need a computer…and a proper bike!

they all have computers on there handle bars power meters in there cranks also measure cadence etc

all have FTP test which tells you how many watts you are fitness wise …so when you ride you dont really want to go over your FTP otherwise legs will just say nope no more .

they all know what there limits are but are a bit more gifted when it come to pain bounce back etc

for instance caleb ewan would pump 800 watts plus in his sprints but that isnt sustainable…

power meter was the best investment ive ever made .

i was lucky enough to meet and become friends with a guy who had previously won the australian 24 hour mountain bike championship so he helped set me up power cadence n bike fit etc

The way this tour has gone so far it’s not totally unreasonable to think something like that could happen again haha

O’Connor does a Pogacar in demolishing the field by over 5 minutes - Colbrelli has found his climbing legs - For the third consecutive day BEX got the wrong rider in the break - BEX should have got O’Connor last transfer period, except for their inflexibility in filling the squad.

I’ve heard of pulling off to the side after you’ve done a turn, but this was ridiculous.

Cam Meyer out of the Olympics. His father is in a bad way.

Mentioned several times today by a Premier of an Australian State bordering on the Indian Ocean

So now Haig and Meyer out of the Olympic RR. Selectors face a difficult choice to find replacements.

The amount of riders being quoted as saying it’s the fastest they have ever seen the peloton is massively suss too.

Don’t underestimate the value of modern equipment, better nutrition, and less race days in improving performance - The arguments used by riders complaining about them setting record power data is more nuanced than a snap headline.

Records are falling in athletics which is no doubt partly caused by the modern running shoes, like what happened with swimsuits a decade ago.

The term doping also needs to be discussed in greater detail. Professional athletes along with the cohort of sports scientists, doctors etc seek all possible substances/treatments to improve performance - There is lots of ‘doping’ happening but if a substance is not on the WADA prohibited list all is fine.
