So we now know why Gigante was in hospital in Girona for a fair while in August.
I wonder if its a side effect from vaccination.
Anyway Juul Jensen and Sansteban renew. More announcements this week.
It hasn’t been a noted outcome of covid vaccinations, but does have a history with small-pox vaccines.
Sam Welsford signs for Team DSM - This is a surprise because he allegedly had a contract with a French amateur team. Interested to see how he performs as he is definitely PCT level.
There is a possibility that the TDU and Cadel’s race may be held before the World’s - I struggle to see how this would fit into the calendar, though it could be possible post-world’s - The SA Govt stuffed up not having the TDU in January 2022 - Anyway if this goes ahead, expect Aussie riders to finish their season in Oz.
Groenewegen transfers to Bike Exchange - Been posting for over a year that BEX had money in their budget after A.Yates leaves - This also suggests that BEX don’t have full confidence in Groves, hence his one year contract renewal.
No longer Dean or Lapage - It’s good that BEX has some more Europeans directing affairs - Matt White is back in OZ making the most of relaxed border restrictions.
Simon Clarke who is cuurently in OZ still has no contract - Will ride the reduced Ozi summer program and head back to Europe in February - He may be best served hunting a DS role.
Giant will be announced as the bike sponsor today at around 7pm AEST. Apparently the sponsorship dollars are big by WT standards.
Edit - Giant is mentioned in this video - Maybe there is not a separate announcement - Anyway, I like the kit.
Weird, pretty much the same as this morning’s announcement.
Sagan is at an interesting stage in his career - He’s caught COVID twice at the worst time of the year being January/February which must impact on his overall performance - Ideally he should lose weight, so he an be more competitive in the hillier races if he wants to be relevant - He’s still fearless in the final, which is why some riders drop off in performance.
Gee the bikes and kits look really good.
Apart from the fact that winning a race doesn’t appear to be Peter’s highest priority in life these days, Sagan has the same problem Matthews has; MVDP and WVA are just simply better at the races that Sagan and Matthews use to dominate.
Ruby Roseman-Gannon wins the women’s Bay Crits day 1.
Blake Quick gets the elite men’s race
Ruby Roseman-Gannon is the most talented Aussie rider in the NRS - Along with Georgia Baker they are both fast in the final - They could win a race or two in Europe if they are placed in suitable races.
Baker tested positive for COVID, while her partner Plapp is deemed a close contact - Plapp will miss the the Nationals ITT but should be fine for the RR - Finally, Eurosport is showing the elite men and women’s RR.
Edit - Gerry Ryan is recovering from COVID - He plans to be at the Giro, TDF and some of the Classics.
Ruby Roseman-Gannon and Blake Quick double up in rather easy wins on day 2 of the Bay Crits.
Bike Exchange can develop a good sprint train in the women’s squad - Roseman-Gannon, Manly, Baker, Fidanza and Campbell is a good team.
