The winner of the women’s elite race received a 50 swiss francs fine for wearing sunglasses on the podium.
Yes. It’s so pedantic and unnecessary
Road Nats in Perth has been epic. I hope all those who decided not to bother travelling to Perth this year have already made up their minds for 2026. Seriously unreal week.
They were very lucky with the weather…it might have been a different story if the temperatures hadn’t been so mild.
Doesnt really matter, does it?
There’s been some really hot RoadNats in Ballarat too.
It’s summer in Australia, that’s what you get.
Exactly my thoughts… Regardless of the weather, I’d much rather be in a major picturesque city CBD with a highly invested audience than a regional town for a boring 19th straight year with dwindling crowds.
Massive dub for WA. Northbridge was absolutely heaving on Friday night and Sunday was absolutely bananas local support for Durbo.
This was pretty early in the elite mens road race
Early afternoon at Pedal Mafia Mountain where we had a big screen with broadcast, retail expo and pop up Hahn Bar.
Elite mens Crit finish
On reflection it was a mistake for Plapp to give Durbridge the win. Yes, you do this in minor races ifthe circumstances permit, however, this should not occur in a major championship. Finally. I wonder how Harper is feeling.
Harper might feel a little aggrieved, but I think giving it to Durbo was okay, he’s a veteran in the last year or two of his career, home soil, I reckon I can forgive it.
Another poor effort by the peleton in the first stage of the women’s TDF. Let someone breakaway with 40kms to go and the peleton stands still. Neither FDJ, AG Insurance or Liv Alula who have the fast sprinters put their nose in the wind. The first two days of elite women’s cycling has been a fizzer.
I am wondering what Jayco will do with Bling. Team is yet to make a decision about which GT, although the TDF and the Giro both suit. I would be bold take him to the Vuelta where there are a number of suitable stages, get him to ride a full Classics program, and eschew stage races where possible.
Ruegg defeats Smulders in the willunga Hill stage of the TDU. Five laps of the Stirling circuit in stage three could lead to an ambush. Welsford wins the men’s criterium with a big crash on the final corner bringing down half the Jayco team. No Plapp on the start line.
Plapp has built a small house on his land at Bright, so has left the caravan behind. He loves it up there and after the Nationals he went back to Bright to train for three days, then after the TDU ,he will go back to Bright for three days before Cadel’s race and then for some reason he is riding the Melbourne to Warrambool. I expect him to win a race or two in Europe this year.
Welsford 2/2 at the TDU
He did well today after suffering a crash early and being dropped on the climb later on.
Norton summit early tomorrow and Pound Reserve (2.7km @ 7.7%) right near the end means he’s not going to make it 3/3
The up coming sprinters like Kooij, Magnier etc dropped the ball by not coming to the TDF. Apparently, Jayco will make a play for Kooij who will get more opportunities in bigger races.
Javier Romo wins stage 3. He got away early on the final climb and couldn’t be caught
Trek had 5 in the final selection and Jayco had 3 but neither could use their numbers to advantage.
Fergus Browning spent his 3rd day in a row in the break and has a commanding lead in the KOM. There should be some WT offers based on his showing this week.
Lumpy Victor Harbour stage tomorrow.
I have the opposite opinion about the useof Fergus Browning ( who I rate ) in this race. It does nothing for him to walk into an unchallenged break, ride tempo to get uncontested mountain points. Instead he should be riding in the peleton trying to make late attacks in the last 20kms or hanging out as long as possible in the peleton. Management have done him no favors this week. Romo should never be able to get away on a descent finish when teams have multiple riders. Finally, Ewan to Ineos. They have a good train to support his ambitions IF he can still deliver results.
Mario Schmid from Jayco out on his own solo.
Who attacks? Chris Harper out of the peloton
