Welsford is going to Ineos. Plowright is a loose cannon so probably no interest. Jayco is pursuing Grmay but he wants lots of money. THEY may not have a sprinter. Finally, Aussie summer will have normal dates with the Nationals 6-11 Jan. It is interesting that Jayco have not taken on Zac Marriage ( 2nd in the Provelo league ) as a stagiare replaceing Jack Ward. Zac is doing a stagiare stint with IPT.
Benson saying Brailsford has nixed the Zana deal at Ineos and Zana looking to see if Jayco will take him back.
âOne text message doesnât tell the whole story, but then I received another from a second source that specifically referenced Zana. The rider had been offered a huge contract that was close to a million Euros per year, but in the past week, his representatives have reportedly gone back to Jayco and asked if the rider could stay because the proposed deal with Ineos was now uncertain.â
This is true. I would take Zana back because Jayco will lose too many climbers. Zana , Dunbar, Harper and Berhe in one transfer period.
Hopefully they will. The squad is looking pretty low on star power.
They will need their quality riders in Matthews, OâConnor, Plapp and Schmid to be in good form. They will also need them to be given suitable programs. then they need their next tier of riders like Engelhardt, DaPretto and Foldager to make the next step. It sees like Ackermann will join the team as a sprinter.
This is my suggested Vuelta team, although, I suspect it will be quite differert.
OâConnor,
Dunbar,
Zana
Foldager
OâBrien
Walscheid
Juul-jensen
Boumann.
Let OâConnor try for GC with Zana and Dunbar for stages. Walscheid for the sprints with support from OâBrien and Foldager.
Add Conca, Capiot, Ackermann and the two under 23s.one or two spots to fill.
Not sure what Ackermann adds tbh.
Heâs well past his best.
Jayco need a sprinter and Ackermann can win two or three races in the right company. I am getting him to ride the TDU as the sprint field is always weak.
riders in ; Holmes, Mckenzie, capiot, Covi, Conci, Ackermann. Holmes and Mckenzie are not ready and I they dont turn out like Quick. Capiot is fine for one day classics, Covi is a fine rider, Conci is an unkmown quantity
riders out ; Groenwegen, harper, reinders, dunbar, Berhe, stewart, deMarchi, Walsceid, Zana?
There is room for one or two more riders. Unfortunately, the team has been outbid for one or targeted riders. They are hoping that one or two Aussies land in their lap like Ewan or Plapp.
And Capiot?
Apparently so. De Bondt joins Jayco in a move that was well kept under wraps. He is the style of rider the team needs.
What does Capiot have to offer. Doesnât seem to have done very much for couple of years.
Can make the finals of one day races in which Jayco is awful, except for Matthews.
Gigante has to improve her bike handling skills. End of story. She will be touch and go for the Aussie summer as a broken femur is a serious leg break.
Its a decent team, though I would have preferred if they brought a sprinter. It was important to give OâBrien and Foldager GT experience. Iâd be disappointed if they donât win a stage, although, this is one of the weaker teams they could have selected for the TTT.
As expected, Covi has joined. You need to disregard his results for the second half of the year, like Schmid of two years ago, because he is doing domestic work and not pushing himself to get a result.
It seems like hepburn will not be offered a contract. Unsure, if he ride on or retire. Durbridge is the only original team member in the team and Jayco should have allowed him to leave 2 years ago. Stage one of Renewi was a disaster for Jayco. On paper they have the best leadout train, yet, they were scattered like brown cows in the finish. I expect one or two have checked out.
Itâs been pretty ho-hum for the first two stages at the Vuelta with the winners being Philipsen and vingegaard. My main focus in the next few days will be on LâAvenir. Got some interesting Aussie riders to follow in ward, tuckwell, Marriage and Appleton.
Jayco got little out of the Renewi Tour. Sprint ttrain got themselves organised and got Groenewegen in good positions in two stages, however, he struggled in the final, yet in the final stage which was hard he made the final and finished 5th.
Aussie team for the World Championship.
mens elite is C.Hamilton, Vine, Plapp, storer, Hindley, matthews, C.Scotson and harper. Unfortunately the best chance in oâconnor is unavailable.
Womens elite is Bradbury, spratt, hanson, chapman, Roseman-gannon and Manly. Womenâs parcour has less climbing but Bradbury is the one.
menâs under 23 is Ward, Marriage, Greenwood and mckenzie. The question is where is Tuckwell?
womenâs under 23 is Anderson, coupland and Wilson-haffendon. Doubt the best team has been chosen.
Junior womens is Gianetti, parslow ans Scheitzer.
Junior Men is Goold, Hewes, Stevenson and Medway. I know little about the juniors.
Mixed TTT is Spratt, hanson, Chapman, Vine, Plapp and Matthews. They should get a podium.
Mens ITT is Vine and Plapp. A podium is a strong chance, while Chapman will aim for a top 10 in the womenâs ITT.
Max Goold is pretty good, although there has been âunpleasant incidentsâ with some of support group at races. Heâs had a pretty good season in Europe.
Medway is solid, donât know anything about Stevenson.
