Like a lot of the internet, the DJ King thread demands a lot of attention. Therefore it has a limited potential for growth but can make something special from this devotion. How many sporting website threads have volunteer archivists and even prizes based on voting histories?
Again like a lot of the internet, the regulars don’t mind talking down to the newbies, though I think that has dropped off a bit recently.
It does not have to be active forever. Plenty of people whinge that it drags when voting drops off, but I actually prefer a slower pace, so I am ambivalent about a 7 vote option. Given my erratic attention to the thread I do not expect my wishes to hold sway.
As for the song, I thought I knew it, realised I didn’t but don’t have time to listen to it all now, so if needed I’ll vote later. It’s a slower life for us DJ Peasants.
I think I have the solution to all those sweet little darlings that have left the thread because their song got voted down.
Maybe we could just send them all one of these
4-7
I still think there are many, many reasons why people have left the thread that aren’t just about people being mean to their music.
It’s very time-consuming, and you have to invest plenty of time just to get a spin, let alone how consuming a long set can be.
I’m warming to the idea of a spin-off thread for a different concept like ‘DJ Battles’ (DJ KingX), while keeping the changes here minimal and practical.
It would be great to get the likes of @GeoffBlethynsGlasses, @Kay_Eff_See, @dingus and @bltn be able to come back for cameo appearances now and then.
Not @ivan or @saladin though. They were too sensitive.
Edit: Essentially what up_up said.
Oh…and as you all probably realise, I like guitars and songs with them have a much higher chance of getting my vote.
BUT…sometimes even the guitars can’t save a song and this is one of those times.
NO
Spin off threads are like adding extra teams to the competition…they have the capacity to dilute the original concept
According to Klawdy, it’s 7 for yes or 10 for no.
So rather than a spin off thread we should move this one to Gold Coast?
He’s a smart man Klawdy.
It’s actually more like AFLX. And everything I read about that said it was a roaring success!
And some say the Bible is non fiction.
Maybe it will be like the split in rugby. League vs union.
Which will end up the thugs and which will be private school boys with popped collars.
Hahaha. 100 for no.
Shouldn’t take too long to get there the way this is going.
I hear Tasmania is chasing it’s own thread
Given the lack of spectators or realistic prospects for growth, this thread would be the perfect fit.
Off to Hobart everyone!
This.
As I said yesterday, I know very few (if any) who have left the thread because they were sad that their song had been crapped on. I asked several of them (at the time), so I’m not guessing here. It was more around how long it took between spins, busy with work/study, etc. There was some mumbling about an inner clique, etc, but nothing about being mortally wounded by the banter.
Of the 20 really active participants in this thread, most have shown an open-mindedness to various genres of music. This is reflected in the songs played & voting history. Plenty of us like rock/punk/grunge, etc as well as electronic music, etc. So, I don’t really understand the suggestion that the thread only has a bunch of punters who enjoy one particular style of music (a few exceptions aside). I really dig the variety of musical interests in this thread.
I’m all for reduced voting to speed things up & I reckon the battle idea is a winner - as it is optional. You can always pass on the keys to the booth once you have been slain if you don’t wanna or have no time to battle someone.
Respectfully, I’m not keen on the multiple songs ‘sets’ idea. It’s too watered down/paternal for my liking. And I also don’t think the issue of self-censorship is such a big deal. The banter makes the thread for mine - not only the music. We need to respect boundaries, however, I think it has been working fine recently.
Just my two bob’s worth.
